Cortana impending rampancy will be a critical theme as will be exploring Master Chief as a person.
Cortana has chosen a new visual identity whilst the Chief has been sleeping.
The Covenant, at least Elites and Grunts, return but are not the primary enemy.
The FUD eventually crash lands on Requiem, a planet enclosed in a massive Dyson Shell.
A new faction from Reqium is introduced. Like the Covenant they will have unique and different enemy types, weapons and equipment. "If anything, they're kind of elevated in terms of their intelligence and complexity relative to the Covenant."
The UNSC is deployed on a top scret mission into deep space but will cross paths with the Master Chief during the campaign.

This all sounds awesome. It really does, but I strongly dislike the art direction. Not sure if you guys have seen the Elites yet, but they look like they took some of the characteristics of Jackals.

I guess the different armor is easily explained by the fact that their military-industrial complex was wrecked in the Schism, and that they're trying to distance themselves from the ways of the Covenant, but the nails, pale arms, huge feet, and skin flaps on the mandibles don't do much for me.

Of course, if this is a breed of Elite that has been on Requiem since the firing of the Halo Array, I withdraw my objections to them changing the look of the Elites. It still looks ugly, but I could live with it.

Well I would assume that what's left of the Covenant made peace with Humanity since they no longer follow the belief of the Great....eh......Awakening? (Jesus I have stopped caring about Halo so much i've forgotten OH YEAH, THE GREAT JOURNEY).

Since they don't believe the Prophets nor the Great Journey they should be allies/on friendly terms/not shooting Humans anymore so anybody that IS shooting at good ol' John should be from the old Covenant or just Heretics that split off a while back.

Not really.
You see, even if the reason behind the war was a huge lie, we've spent the past twenty five years killing each other. There's Elites who are clinging to some form of the Covenant religion (though they are hostile toward the Loyalists) and ONI is shipping them weapons because a house divided cannot threaten the UNSC. Of course, given that Covenant weapons have turned up in Insurrectionist hands again, the Covenant might be returning the favor.

In general, though, the Elites are coming to terms with the fact that the whole empire that supported them has fallen apart, and stuff they haven't had to do for hundreds of years, like large-scale farming and economic planning is now the order of the day. Some just want peace so they could rebuild, like the Arbiter. Others want to destroy Humanity before it becomes a threat again.

'I like the elites now, they look less like robots and more like the aliens i remember in halo 1 and 2.

For the grunt, i dont have an opinion on just yet.
