I'm not sure that really qualifies as canon error - more like poor storytelling.KristallNacht wrote:It was bad with canon in that it followed none of it

Um the fact you're a SPARTAN III where no SPARTAN-IIIs were, interacting with other military forces in a small unit?
The fact the PoA was even in the dry docks?

Are you listing the only ones you saw or just random ones?

Re: Halo 4
The SPARTAN III bit is just super prominent.
I didn't really feel like citing all the in detail ones since there's a high chance I could be a bit wrong, or that the issue would be able to be flimsily explained away.

Re: Halo 4
spartan III's were suppose to be super secret, and have active camo, and were made for suicide missions, they were not given MJOLNIR armor, nor sheilds, made to work in big teams to buy the UNSC time (tradeing lifes for time)

Microsoft executive Phil Spencer wrote:We kind of lost our way a little bit, I’ll say. I thought that Halo 3 :ODST was one of the best singleplayer campaigns in the series. It seems the focus in this is that they are going to try to make Master Chief even more angry space marine who kills aliens and saves the worldish. And I for one and not excited about that.

Re: Halo 4
Reach didn't have the master chief, and it was really good in general.
ODST didn't do well in the market because it was so much different than the past halo games.

dragoon9105 wrote:Not when you know they are going to all die anyway. It loses alot of dramatic effect when you know each and every character your looking at is probably going to die before the final cutscene.
I played it like I didn't know they were going to die.
Jun? Got too mad at him over Nightfall to care if he lived or died.
Emile? Didn't care for him until the end, when he really started pulling his weight and made it clear that the deaths of Noble team were affecting him. He grew on me over subsequent playthroughs.
Jorge? Whoever didn't feel something when he sacrificed himself does NOT have a heart.
Kat? One of my favorite characters. Hit me hard when she died. (And by the way, she did NOT have her shields up. She was disoriented from the blast, and had a problem with 'situation awareness' in the first place.)
Carter? A strange character. He didn't do much for the story, but by reading fan rewrites without him, I think he filled a role as leader that none of the others could have occupied.
Only if you're unfamiliar with Joss Whedon's work. Otherwise, you've got a betting pool on which of the secondary characters is going out in a bad real estate deal.tiny tim wrote:Good example of a well done dramatic death? Wash in Serenity. Wish they'd cleaved closer to tFoR, but they /did/ say that they were going to modify the timeline somewhat.
Nah, it's a retcon.CivBase wrote:I'm not sure that really qualifies as canon error - more like poor storytelling.KristallNacht wrote:It was bad with canon in that it followed none of it
-A retcon is where you decide to change continuity, either to tell a better story or to correct a previous mistake. An example would be how Johnson's case of Borens Syndrome was revealed to be a cover-up.
-A Canon error is a mistake that conflicts with canon, but is not intended to change canon. An example would be how the original Halo Encyclopedia listed the BR-55's range as 247 feet.
-A gameplay decision is purely for the sake of balance or a fun game, and is not intended to reflect on canon. An example would be the much-maligned (By Rotaretilbo, at least) decision to have ODSTs carry HMGs faster than Spartans.
-Poor storytelling is the inability to tell a cohesive or engaging story. An example would be how Halo Wars just hashed together the plot of the previous three games, cut a third of it out, and added in a typical Bruce Willis character for a lead.
Are we clear on that now?
Explained in the Halo: Evolutions short story, Headhunters. Small numbers of Spartan-IIIs were detached from the typical Spartan-III missions and used for more covert ops, with different gear than standard. Largely, it seems to have been an effort to fill jobs when there weren't enough Spartan IIs or spinoff programs, such as Javelins, to cover.KristallNacht wrote:Um the fact you're a SPARTAN III where no SPARTAN-IIIs were, interacting with other military forces in a small unit?
Well, yeah, that was a retcon.KristallNacht wrote:The fact the PoA was even in the dry docks?
They were. Halsey herself couldn't get information on them when she asked point-blank. While she knew they were from a Spartan-II spinoff program, she didn't know which one.laxspartan007 wrote:spartan III's were suppose to be super secret,
Yes, there was more than one.
[sarcasm]Yes, because SPI armor was surgically grafted onto their skin as soon as they got the augmentations, and there's no way in Hell that they couldn't have been fitted out for mere MJOLNIR.[/sarcasm]laxspartan007 wrote:and have active camo,
They were trained to accomplish important objectives against impossible odds. They were willing to lay their lives down for the mission, but the fact that those missions were suicide missions speaks mostly of the location and the Covenant presence on those missions.laxspartan007 wrote:and were made for suicide missions,
The difference between a suicide soldier and a soldier on an impossible mission is the difference between the pilot of a MXY-7 Ohka and a B-25 pilot on the Doolittle raid.
Well, the ones deployed on the suicide mission weren't.laxspartan007 wrote:they were not given MJOLNIR armor, nor sheilds,
Remember, the point of SPI was that it was cheap and disposable. On non-suicide missions, there's no reason not to encase your super-soldiers in what is essentially a wearable tank.
Even if they were deployed in large groups, they would have been trained to work in discrete teams. That's why we have squads, platoons, companies, etc. Because once you try leading more than twelve people personally, crap hits the fan.laxspartan007 wrote:made to work in big teams to buy the UNSC time (tradeing lifes for time)

Also, it doesn't actually say it's "the Halo 4 warthog". Even if it is, still looks fine.

That term has been in use at least since Halo: Reach. I think it's the Army designation.Rotaretilbo wrote:Wait, "Force Application Vehicle"?
Also, keep in mind that they had certain limitations when doing this in the Forza engine, so the suspension had to be changed.

I think the bigger question if how the Master Chief has access to a UNSC Warthog when he's stranded in deep space, especially given most of the hangar of the Forward unto Dawn was practically all sucked into space.
