Not how I feel about Reach, given how Bungie isn't responsible for Age of Spaceology or Halo Legends.Rotaretilbo wrote:This really sums up how I feel.

They came out in a recent interview and basically said, and I'm paraphrasing, of course, "Fuck the books." They've chosen a side, and that side is Microsoft/343 Studios.

Well, bungie's betrayed the hardcore fans, time to move on to other developers. Hello Dice and 2K Marin! So loyal...

It's times like this I wish Eric Nylund would whack the jerk-off who said that with all the books he has written for them.
Though to Bungie's credit, they made have sold the canon out the retards, but when it comes to their actual games, they managed to at least keep it mainly canonical.

If by "the jerk-off," you mean Art Director Marcus Lehto (interview), then yes, I agree.
Re: Halo: Reach
Good thing it wasn't Joe Staten, then we would be fucked.
Letho has always been a twat. Good thing he isn't writing the story. Damn did you hear what he said, 'This is not a retelling of Fall of Reach, we have made new ground to tell our story'.
What a douche.

Re: Halo: Reach
You sure he didn't mean that the game would simply focus on different events than the book did? While still staying true to what we already know about the battle?
Anyways, I've given some new thought to the issue with canon. While I am still sticking with what I said before to a degree, you must consider that they formed the story of Halo around the concept and feel they wanted to achieve for Halo CE. Ever since they did that, they have been forced to form their concepts and ideas around the story they have already made.
While I don't feel that Bungie is taking the right direction with say, the spartans, I do see how one would prefer violating more or less minor details in order to form a more enjoyable game.

Re: Halo: Reach
I'm going to point out once again that there is campaign customization, which means you make your own character. Hopefully he will speak during the cutscenes, but it certainly explains why he isn't on the frong cover.
And if they didn't show him in the video, than we wouldn't know who we were playing as.

I'm not saying that isn't true. But where exactly did they say that there is campaign customization, such as Noble 6 himself?
Im just curious because I must have missed it and if that is true, Then that really does explain why he isn't on the cover.
Please let me know...

I remember him saying something about your character being more customizable or something along those lines.

It would be pretty hard for the game to follow the events of FoR in that manner, because FoR only covers the space aspect of the battle. If they meant they weren't telling it from the same perspective, they'd probably have mentioned First Strike.

If they don't want to have to tell a story formed around previous ones, they should make single stand alone games, rather than making a series. If Halo: Combat Evolved had been a stand alone game, no one would have been upset. The game resolved all local conflict, and left global conflict open so a sequel was possible but not necessary.

What angers me is just how easy it would have been to fit this story in with the existing canon. Gamma S-IIIs with SPI armor would make perfect sense. Call the assault rifle the MA5K, and you've got another tie in. Or, open the game the way First Strike opens up, and then focus on one of the three groups of S-IIs that we know next to nothing about, other than their general assignment. The shit hits the fan almost immediately, so if the game followed Beta Company, they could do virtually anything with them. With Gamma and Delta Company, we know a little bit more about where they ended up, but they'd still have a lot of freedom to do stuff. But they chose to go the "new" route, where they tell canon to fuck off, because they're going to do something completely different that doesn't make a lot of sense because they can.

Re: Halo: Reach
It's been confirmed, but i got the confirmation secon-hand from a Bungie Vidoc (from plenty of people), and i honestly don't want to track down the source.RockaHolicGameR wrote:TNine wrote:I'm going to point out once again that there is campaign customization, which means you make your own character.
