There were still plenty of unique units that existed that were not put in. On top of that, every single country had it's own uniforms, but all CA did was repaint the same uniforms.(for the most part)

I'm the Russians, and I've just won my second battle.
I'm going by the Russian style of warfare: launch a lot of low tech units, and crush everything, leaving no survivors.

PiE, the Russian strategy was basically to lose.
Sometimes they'd run away and let scorched earth + their winter win it for them.

At least until WWII

but they actually won many battles in WWII, and conquered much of Germany/Poland

That's what they did when the french tried to invade Russia. Napoleon lost 500,000+ troops to "scorched earth" policies and the russian winter.

They won some battles near the end of WWII, only because the Germans were fighting on 2 fronts with most of there troops fighting the Allies. All the Russians had to do was walk in and open the front door.

History pretty much proves that russians aren't that great at war.

Never played this game though. . .

Anyway, I'm going with there offensive strategy.
Their defense is generally Scorched Earth, but since I'm a regional power, I'm just making large armies, and steam-rolling over smaller ones.

My game is dying Sad

Every time I declare war on someone, or they declare war on me, five times out of six it will freeze, then go white. 'Empire has experienced an error and needs to close - so screw you.' It's not even probability, it seems to be tied in with nations who seem very intent on declaring war on me.

Anyone else had anything similar or suggestions to resolve? (btw, it worked fine for 90 turns and has just gone bugger-up today - also, reinstall will take me 22 hours and leave me computerless for the duration)

EDIT - I think it must be to do with the update... Does anybody know how to remove them, or had any problems since 30th march?

I haven't had that problem yet.

Anyway, I'm doing alright right now.

I ended the war with the Swedes(by taking St. Petersburg, then requesting peace) and then my ally, Denmark, took greater Sweden and they only have one region left.

Also, I gave the Cherokee Nations some land near me, and I allied with them.

I'm in a mostly Naval war with the Ottoman Empire, and I just allied with the Martha Confederacy.

I've been allied with Poland-Lithuania since the beginning of the game.

That is where I disagree with you. Seeing as how they captured poland, Crushed Sweden before it could conquer the baltic, and were able to Conquer all of Siberia plus Alaska proves that they at least did something. Not to mention you didnt just become the world's largest nation through diplomacy, or fighting badly.

I have all the Total War games. Empire: Total War is good, but I prefer the swordfighting element in the other Total War games. Rome: Total War will awlays be my favourite. Medieval 2: Total War is just plain hard. Especially with the Pope which really pisses me off. Just downloaded Rome: Total Realism, and conquered Africa, Egypt, Greece, France, Italy and Iberia. Beginning a conquest of Britannia and then betraying my allies, Germania. Hoplitai's for the win. The only problem I have with it, is that the Selucid Empire is too damn big and conquering them will take me a LONG time.

The Russians were never good at invasion IMO. Most if not all offensive attacks that they won were the result of superior numbers.

I do have to say that they were great at defending their homeland during times of strife. Just search up the battle of Stalingrad, it's a perfect example.

They didnt defeat the Ottomans with superior numbers. Hell, Napoleon outnumbered them in the Napoleonic War, and they were pretty even with Sweden. So your point is invalid.
