Cheese, you need better internet service.
I live in the hills of Wales - we're lucky to have phones
I get 800 before America wakes up (dont know if that has anything to do with it, but I was getting 800kb/s at one point)
So nobody seems to have it? Or the ones that do will just disappear for several weeks.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
I'm getting a new video card soon, so I should at least be able to play the Demo, even if I don't get the game.
Hopefully I'll get the game too, but I asked for it as a birthday present, so I'm not sure. (I got a new wireless mic today)

I'm not looking at it, my dad is.
I don't know what kind, but I do know it's a 1Gig card, it's usally $130, but he can get it for $30 from a store because of a sale.
Right now we have the ATI Radeon that came with the computer, but it's from 2005.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
Hey, what are some strategies you guys use?
I've been thinking about flanking, but different kinds of flanking, like sending a small force to lead the enemy forces to one direction, while the rest of my forces come in from the opposite end.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
I tried that in the demo. My cav took to the 2nd land bridge with my hessians comign in reserve. Though I killed more than I lost, the losses werent worth it.(Damm cannons took out my highlanders and Light Infantry, who were the most vital part of my flank attack.)
Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
I am currently searching for a good recording device. Xfire video lags the HELL out of the game, and takes up 600 mb per minute. I can only record 30 seconds with the fraps trial too.
Any suggestions?

I use fraps and just pause at around 25 secs and then start a new recording, then slot together the clips when I'm done. That's when I was making my machinima anyways - dont think i needed a shot over 30 secs though...

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
I have tried that before, but it misses some in between, so its jumpy at parts, plus you need to pay attention, I would prefer something I can just turn on then turn off when I'm done, having minimal impact on the game.
Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
Okay, got the graphics card and the demo works great!
Hopefully I'll get the actual game soon.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
Here's a strategy I thought up.
Now, I still don't have the actual game, but I can at least practice this on the demo.
Send several light infantry to harrass the enemy. When they're attacking them, have the light infantry run away, with the enemy in pursuit.
Make sure to setup artillery and other infantry in a spot that isn't visible to the enemy.
Have the light infantry lead them to that spot(preferably a ridge or a hill) and when the enemy gets there, have the artillery fire either cannister or solid shot at them. Make sure to position some infantry below the artillery, so that they can keep the enemy at arm's length.
While the enemy is engaged, have any cavalry you have come in from the flank, and hit them.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
They wont pursue you. They just wait for you while pounding you to death with their cannons that are 4 times better than yours.
Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
So what are people thinking?
I stopped playing a week ago, and I don't know why. I think limited variety in troops and buildings. The castle/town system worked great in the old one (though not being able to change a large town into a castle was a pain). I think they may have a new system but I have no idea how to operate it.
Also, building capturing is very frustrating at times.
But the battles still rock - far better than TW2. It's just I dont like the map as much

Really? I absolutely love it!
I did however notice the lack of unit variety.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
Admittedly, the five minute load times are a tad off-putting, which I can in no way blame the game for.
I do like it. I just have no compulsion to play it when I'm not.

Re: Official 'Empire: Total War' Thread
this was to be expected. After all, it's the 18th century, everyone in Europe(Including post Peter Russia) fought the same.Dud Doodoo wrote:I did however notice the lack of unit variety.
