Re: Modern Warfare 3
What Call of Duty 4 did, was bring in an actual plausible conflict in the Middle East, with justification. It heightened a Russian-Chechnya like conflict and made it into a full blown civil war, which can be believed in the reality of the game as Russia has continuously made errors in it's domestic policy regarding 'independent nations' within the Federation in real life. The British SAS actions make sense as well.
What MW2 lacks, is focus. They wanted to go over the top, but failed miserably because they got ahead of themselves to produce a game that was not finished. In order to appease the people, they threw in Michael Bay sequences. I personally believe if they had focused more and were alloted more time to work out a coherent story and tweak gameplay mechanics, they could have created a pretty decent game.
For MW3, they made the fatal mistake of continuing on the franchise. Despite the fact they have three separate groups working on it, they are trying to work with dead meat now. They cannot fix upon the errors of MW2 if they continue with over the top. If they honestly wanted to make something to fix the Modern Warfare section of the Call of Duty franchise, they should first fix a broken story, which will probably not be possible (though this is based on solely trailers and past games), and balance-out and completely redo the gameplay so it's not the same old same old.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
Agreed, as my point in that little rant was to show how badly all this conflict is set up and justified, which wasn't a problem in COD4 as it was a much tighter thought story.
I've not played Black Ops campaign but from what I have heard the story was 'Improved' from MW2 and I do like the Manchurian Candidate-like premise, so maybe treyarch can help iron out their story woes
I wouldn't hold your breath though.

The Blops story still was a bit holey.
i.e. the whole fucking U.S. Navy showing up and screwing the Russian's shit at the end.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
Ughhh maybe they should change the ageing graphic engine and then for fun move onto making another game besides the same re-packaged first person shooter that they have been cloning for the last 4 years, Cod 4 slides but after that besides Nazi zombies NO NO NO! It's been the same game, fuck maybe actvison could combine guitar hero and call of duty together! That would be a game i Buy

The Blops story was a bit jumpy but it wasnt too bad. They were supporting CIA backed commandos not cannon fodder i think they could spare a few ships.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
it was still pretty bad.
and mostly failed at the 'black ops' premise.
because, like yahtzee said, 'black ops' inspires a sense of stealth, and tactics....
cod4 had more stealth and that is the game where a fucking nuke goes off in your face

So, we all think that Infinity Ward needs to go look up "pacing" and, you know, add it.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
At least Modern Warfare 2's stealth bits actualy were stealthy
It feels like stealth in newer fps games is running up to someone and stabbing one guy undetected, THEN lighting up the place

The only Black Ops part of Black Ops was the snow mission.

That was, untill they started blowing up everything. But hey, some games have to be the hollywood-esque explosion feast. I never really gave a crap about the story after MW2, but hey, I still get entertained while I play the games ^^

The term "Black Operations" doesn't always insinuate stealth. It is carrying out a mission that is top secret, against the law, or not within standard military protocol, while retaining plausible deniability.
Black Ops, while kinda providing a more to the point story, kind of went a little overboard in its whole, "WE'RE MOTHER FUCKING BLACK OPS GUYS! WE CAN FUCKING SHOOT DOWN MISSILES, DRIVE ANYTHING, etc." You get the point.

Basically every single mission with the SAS in COD 4 would be what I thought of, if I was called my game 'Black Ops'

And so it begins. The daily mail is the fox news of our newspapers. They've been pretty anti-games, especially when Black Ops came out.
Oh yeah I remember the July 7th Bombings involved a subway chase in a car in a clearly empty track where it derailed and crashed into some supports. That was the characteristic image of that day. For fucks sake.

Yeah there it is with a face=palming bad trailer/explanation.
Seriously it just looks like Waypoint/Bungie.net that has premium paid membership.

Re: Modern Warfare 3
So.... absolutely no war games can have any part take place in London because there were terrorist attacks there a few years ago. Riiiight...
You don't hear anyone complaining about Crysis taking place in New York where, you know, three thousand people were killed by terrorists a few years ago.
Of all the reasons I dislike Call of Duty, including terrorists in a modern war is not one of them. Who do these guys think we're fighting anyway? France?

Civ I wouldn't worry about it. I live near London and besides the Daily Mail and maybe 1 Member of Parliament who hates Video games anyway, nobody cares. I'm sure they'll be a minor bitching about it just after or before it's released in November, but even then it will be over and done within a week.
It's the bitching of overly sensitive people who can't get over an attack that happened nearly 6 years ago.
