Re: Destiny.
MMO's are always "always online" for obvious reasons. Don't think I know any that have an offline mode at all.
Re: Destiny.
Guildwars 1 would not end your current session if you were alone in a PVE area(due to the game using Private instances for everything outside of towns) even if your internet connection died. The second you went back to town however it would ask you to re-log but saved your progress.

Re: Destiny.
That's pretty cool I guess. Not a necessity though.
If you are playing a MMO (which this pretty much is) and they require an internet connection I don't realistically see a lot of people calling bullshit as it's advertised as a moulteeplayir game, not a singleplayer which is what everyone is pissed about.

Re: Destiny.
Yeah, I'd also like to note that Bungie has always had pretty solid servers for their multi-player compenants for their games. Aside for the occassional lag spike and the rare server shutdown, they've been at the very least playable on since Halo 2.
This isn't like SimCity like as KrAzY said probably got forced into making it always online with EA's appaling servers.
If Heart of the Swarm can release globally at midnight and run always online without any significant hitches, just a few weeks after Simcity, you know it's doable. Blizzard have clearly learnt from Diablo III about the importance of server load and making sure it works if you have a game always online.
I'd expect everybody else doing something similar will be making doubly sure it works after this latest PR disaster, Bungie included.

You'd think that the d3 launch, or the launch of pretty much every wow expansion would have taught them that...

Re: Destiny.
well, to be fair, as much as I think bungie is awesome. their entire server load for destiny at its peak I doubt will reach the server load of an average day's blizzard server handling for a single game, let alone any of their games on release date (especially since blizzard sells all their games as digital downloads now too, which also takes up a TON on bandwidth)

Re: Destiny.
The server load should be fine.
This game will run on 4 different consoles (5 if PC is announced) so the servers should be a lot more balanced between them then every single person who bought the game trying to get into 1 consoles servers.

Re: Destiny.
Not to mention it's probably not going to be as popular as even Halo. Not as an offense to Bungie, but still. That does mean that the servers will be under less load.
It really shouldn't be that much of a problem.

Re: Destiny.
Of all the things to be concerned with, an always-online feature for an MMO is probably the least important.

Re: Destiny.
New video showing their characters and races in the game.
The Vex seem to move a lot like elites to me.
Also want to see more about the Hive, i've always been a fan of enemies or just groups in general that operate on a Hive mind sort of fashion which i'm assuming they do given their name. Not as big a fan when I find out that it's controlled by something that just has human like intelligence instead of just being animal in nature. Such as the Xenomorphs as opposed to the Locusts or the Flood (though I do like gravemind better since he puts forth his belief that he should consume all life because that's what he does and not for some suedo "I am the superior life form" bullshit.

Hive looked pretty lame. Like crypt zombies from timesplitters lol

Re: Destiny.
The fallen look cool most def.
Im assuming the last three were the "classes" you could choose. If so the Titan one looks cool =))))
I agree with gauz on the Hive i assume there is more variety. *crosses fingers*
The other two enemies look varied and have different fighting styles which im all for. =D

Re: Destiny.
I like whoever does Bungie's concept art.
This one gives me a Bioware Star Wars feel. Probably just the yellow and white along with the rust on it and orange from the sand everywhere reminding me of the Ebon Hawk.
The Wall of the city
Here is 2 of the characters as well
The first one makes me wonder with the crest on his chest how much custom-ability we will really have.
There are more new pictures where these came from but these are just the ones I liked and could be bothered to post. There were a few of the enemies as well.

Re: Destiny.
Bungie still got those Live action chops I see.
Look forward to see what it plays like at the PS4 conference.

Re: Destiny.
as good as it looks, idk how they're gonna manage making it last long enough to matter. For Reference, name a popular MMO that has full voice and cutscenes....
FFXIV barely anybody knows about, and isn't TOR pretty much hated?
