Jun crouched low enough to be missed by the laser.
In any case, this actually looks really interesting. B.Net is abuzz with discussion.

I heard that it was concept art, and Bungie was simply looking for inspiration. It was never supposed to be released to the public and was certainly not final.Nocbl2 wrote:Jun crouched low enough to be missed by the laser.

You will need to fly into the structure of Destiny, fire a Proton Torpedo at the main reactor core, and escape while everything explodes around you.

Re: Destiny.
I find it rather comical how developers have recently been releasing dates for when they'll release information rather than just... you know... releasing the information.

Re: Destiny.
Info dump time. For all they teased, it seems like it's still a way's out. The premise is interesting though, though I'm not sure if I agree with some of the design decisions.

I don't know about you guys but that looks and sounds pretty awesome. Except the whole excuse for DRM thing, that's not awesome, Also makes no sense if the games going to be released just for 360 and Ps3.

I'm wondering mostly how the 360 will handle a persistent world

Re: Destiny.
I really think it's a place holder, as I really find it unlikely that Destiny will be released prior to the next generation of consoles.
Skyrim is pretty much a persistent world, the only real difference is the online component.
Games like Journey and Final Fantasy XI online show that it's doable, but latency would definitely be my biggest concern, as would random disconnects.

Re: Destiny.
I doubt it'll come out before the new generation of consoles.
Even if it did it would still be for the next generation as well i'm sure.
If anyone is allowed to work on the next gen games before others for launch date games, it's bungie.
Hopefully this doesn't bankrupt them. I was going to say if anyone could make a good fps mmo it'd be bungie, but then I remembered that I said if anyone could make a good RPG MMO it'd be Bioware and see how that ended up.
Though what I played was awesome of ToR, i'm just not big into RPG MMO's. To much min maxing not enough skill. This could be different.

Re: Destiny.
I hope it comes out within 2 years or else im just not going to get hyped about it. If what they promise is true then we will have a new game for us all to play on.
And I can finally get a console again lol.
PC MASTER RACE!!!!

Re: Destiny.
I don't think this will bankrupt Bungie since it's not a traditional MMO. It sounds like there will be a single persistent world (instead of one on each server) and the console will populate the area on your local game up to a certain point. This should put a much lighter computation load on Bungie's end, which will hopefully keep maintenance costs minimal. It's a really smart idea, imo, and I hope it works out.
Three primary questions/concerns so far:
1) How will Bungie monetize the game? tl;dr? I hope it's an up-front price.
They've already confirmed it wont have a subscription (at least, not a required one) but I sincerely hope it is not free to play. The free to play model isn't bad, but it makes up for the price by taking out some elements of the game and forcing you to unlock them by investing large amounts of time into a game. Unfortunately, that's usually time which I don't have.
Microtransactions can help fix the time-investment problem, but it deludes my feeling of achievement and progress. It usually feels like too much of the game is simply about unlocking the items; once I'm there, it just feels empty. It kind of feels like shootshootbangbang. Also, with game progression as long and tiresome as is common in f2p/microtransaction games, many people I would like to play the game with grow tired of it, giving me a much smaller group of friends to play with compared to a game like... say... Halo... or even shootshootbangbang. I'd much rather pay a larger sum and know I'm getting a full experience.
That said, free to play isn't always bad. In fact, Team Fortress does it pretty well by simply charging only for cosmetic items and including steam workshop support, which ensures that the shelves will always be stocked with new and interesting items. Sadly, I doubt a new IP - especially on a console - would survive on that plan. TF2, of course, started with a traditional payment and only adopted it's current f2p model after many years of success.
2) How open will the game be?
With this experience, I'm hoping for huge areas of exploration and beautiful environments. So far, Bugnie's titles have had amazing, detailed environments in relatively small scale. I would want this game's playable area to be huge - at least as big as Morrowind and JC2, hopefully more. Maybe I just don't understand enough about their vision yet, but what I've seen so far indicates something at least the size of WoW. If that's true, how detailed will these environments be? How will this compare graphically to other MMO's, shooters, and previous Bungie titles? And how much copy-paste will we see in the environments?
3) How will the population algorithm they talked about affect social interactions?
MMO's aren't near as social as some companies like to advertise. For the most part, people stick to playing with friends just like they would in a traditional game. Still, it would be awkward to start interacting with someone only for the algorithm to separate you as soon as you get far enough apart. It would also be weird if it picked from the entire pool of players in the area; you may often see only one person of an entire group on your end. And how would clipping work in that situation? And logging in/out? I'm sure they've considered this stuff, but it's still a concern until I know more.
For the most part, though, this is exciting news. It's nice to see Bungie at work again. They're definitely doing what they do best and I hope Destiny works out for them.
