Rot does care for it for canonical reasons.
Everybody else thought it was a bit cliche given how every is given heroic sacrificial deaths.
Oh and armor lock in game play made people angry.

I found reach rather enjoyably both in Single player and Multi.

Re: Destiny.
I thought Reach was fine in gameplay mode. Didn't own the game myself and I just played through Legendary Single Player to do it. Thought it was okay.
Then again maybe it's cause I haven't really cared about a Halo game since Nocbl was 9.
And yeah, Nocbl's age is now the official way to scale years on TCF.

Re: Destiny.
Honestly, there's two ways for Spartans to die.
The first is "random, meaningless death because we need a redshirt."
The second is "Death that actually tries to accomplish something."
Jorge, and Carter fit into the last category, and I don't mind how Emile punched his ticket.
As for characterization... Well, they've grown on me. Now, I only hate Jun!

I really liked Jorge and the way he went out, but after then they all started dropping fast and loose. Kat's death was a good example of the first way, and it was good shock to the system when it happened.
Oh and Carter's death was a bit weak as it was just " a Scarab's in the way, I'll just go ram it for you"
Emile pretty went down as I expected.
And why do you hate Jun? Dude is such a non-entity in the game even the developers forgot about killing him!

Re: Destiny.
Jun's the only one that lived. I actually sort of liked how he was portrayed in Fistful of Arrows.
Jorge was the only character I felt for, so of course they killed him early.
Speaking of which, how's Bungie gonna pull an emotional story if it's basically an MMO?

Re: Destiny.
I was thinking about Colonial Marines and reading shit about PR lies and saw this video and a bunch of others but this one talks about Preorders a lot more than others.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/6863-Previewed-Preordered-Prescrewed
And remembering that Destiny already has a preorder option up so you can give them money for a game that's not even being released IN THE YEAR that you pay them irks me a bit more now.
We all are hopeful this game will do good and be great and for the most part (nocbl and lax excluded) are smart individuals. But if anybody on this site preorders Destiny this year for any reason barring 50% or more of the price off the game price or it's sudden announcement of it's release date being this Christmas I will track you down and kick your ass. Or i'll send Rot and he'll do....things.

Re: Destiny.
To me, pre-ordering is a primitive version of crowd funding. I have no problem with the concept, because rational people should catch on after being fooled once. Sadly, there is a lot of stupid out there. That said, we should focus on fixing the stupid, rather than catering to them. Anyone stupid enough to pre-order from Gearbox deserves to lose their money. Anyone who pre-orders Destiny years from release with no real idea of what the game is deserve to lose their money.

Turns it into "stupid. I'm talking Nocbl levels of stupid here."
Word filter for that has been removed now.

That word filter would have been so much cooler if you'd used parentheticals to make it actually flow.
Re: Destiny.
i pre-ordered it to get the poster, only put 5$ down, and i can retract that money at any time.

Re: Destiny.
After the disaster that was Mass Effect 3, I'm never pre-ordering games again.
I'd rather just wait a few days and let the critical reviews and word and mouth to spread so I have a better idea of what I'm buying honestly.
So far this policy has allowed me to avoid Dead Space 3 and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Not liking that the first thing you see on their site is "Preorder"

Re: Destiny.
Yah, I don't preorder anymore unless I know exactly what I'm getting and there is some actual worthwhile benefit (like a reasonably reduced cost or instant beta access... or both if you're interested in the new slender game).
Re: Destiny.
I dunno if I've pre-ordered a game since Wind Waker. I had such a bad experience back then that I just subconsciously avoid it. And it's not what you think. Wind Waker is probably my second favorite Zelda game, after Majora's Mask. You see, by pre-ordering, I was to get a copy of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask remastered for GameCube. However, when the video game store called to let me know the game had arrived, my mom answered, and thinking I had enough video games, despite my having paid money, failed to tell me for two weeks that my game was in, and so I didn't end up getting aforementioned game disk, as it was a while supplies last thing.
Re: Destiny.
Didn't preorders start as an attempt to fix that sort of thing? That's why I used to pre-order some games for Xbox.Rotaretilbo wrote:and so I didn't end up getting aforementioned game disk, as it was a while supplies last thing.
Re: Destiny.
they will hold onto your order for 48-hours, then its first come first serve, you WILL get what you paid for if you come later, but when its back in stock.

Re: Destiny.
Exactly. And since I didn't pay for the other game, but it was rather a bonus for pre-ordering, when I failed to show up for two weeks, they assumed I wasn't coming and sold their leftovers.
Re: Destiny.
Mailbag question that was interesting
shmuel30 How does it feel to have been working on Destiny for so long and being finally able to release more information about it to us?
I’ve only been on the project for 5 months, and I was literally bursting at the seams. I can’t imagine what some coworkers who’ve been working on it for years had to endure.
Leland Dantzler, Tester
I’ve spent 3 years having to say “the game I’m working on,” and now I can shorten that to three syllables.
Justin Truman, Engineering Lead
They have been working on it for some time (evidence being in the ODST game as conception at least), question is: to what degree.
They could have just been mapping out worlds and concept art the whole time but from the looks of the game play parts i'd say they've gotten quite a bit into the actual game making portions of it.

Re: Destiny.
They've at least had the concept since ODST. They even talked about how some guys were on ODST, some on Reach, and others on a "different project." This was during the development of ODST, and perhaps even beforehand.
I'd suspect they've been planning out Destiny for a good long while now.

well, the difference is that destiny is a perpetual online world by design... as opposed to a single player game being forced to be online to make sure games aren't being pirated
