Re: Halo: Reach
At first I thought you were over-reacting - especially when it was taking off. It looked like a perfectly fine evac shuttle, not dissimilar to the ones we have today. Then I saw it fly.
Oh God.
It's not even badass. It's just StarFox.

Ringleader wrote:Because the whole premise of going up in completely customized space jet fighter thing with booster rocket engines kind of destroys the realism and continuity of the Halo universe they've been building for the last 10+ years.
Longswords don't use booster rockets, we know that from when you escape the Pillar of Autumn, so why does the Sabre need them? Did they really think it would make it more badass if they added booster rockets? Halo used to be a game of subtle magnificence, from when you first stepped out of the lifeboat onto the alien ringworld, overlooking a waterfall vista. Now, your BOOSTING ROCKET ENGINES OFF OF A PLANET TO DOGFIGHT ALIENS IN ALIEN SPACE FIGHTERS, ELECTRIC GUITARS, WHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!.
Don't get me wrong, it's still badass and all, but it's REALLY out of place, and it makes no sense. I think it would be cooler if they used a Longsword, not only for continuity but it also gives you a sense of vulnerability and humanity (two feelings you should always have when playing Halo) and when you're When you're in an all-powerful space jet, with shields, that can barrel roll around in space, then who cares? You're supposed to be on the verge of extinction.
well it was a launch bad, the ring probibly didn't have as strong a gravity pull as the planet reach... i dont know, next DevDoc they may explain

Re: Halo: Reach
I don't belive that at all.
Appartly everything has to be to the fucking teet. Reach was a testing facility as well. I guess it's too much to think that there might be some new vehicles and weapons there that we don't see later on because they were lost when Reach fell. And I think V brings up a good point. It's a different setting. The Ring and Reach most likely have different gravitys and all that. It seemed pretty easy to leave the rings atmosphere in the other games. So they didn't need the boosters. Reach however, is a fairly large planet so I can only assume that they just need boots to leave the atmosphere.
And your really bringing down the gameplay? Halo's has vehicle levels and scenarios before, now this one comes around in actual space (what Halo is known for and we read about all the time and finally get to be in one) and now it's bad cause he does a barrel-roll? Ha! Nice try.
Wait, are we really talking about shit like this again? *sigh* I really don't understand some people. You manage to take something as great as Halo and Halo trying something new no less, and turn it into this. Way to go.
Space Battles FTW.
EDIT: Hey, you know what, sorry for acting so hostile. I shoudn't act that way.

Re: Halo: Reach
I agree with Rock. Bungie is trying something new. We asked for a flyable Pelican, we got the Hornet. We asked for space battles, we got the Sabre. And, like Rock said, it's probably just experimental tech. We never saw the Sabre because they all got totally fucked in the battle of Reach. Another thing; they could be new exclusive to Reach. Remember how in GoO the Admiral of the Hopeful said there were only two known SS COM Launchers? It's like that. Sabres were so expensive and new that they couldn't be built in large quantities and only were available on Reach at the time.

I didn't like the space fight part.
I'm agreeing with Ringleader. Space battles look cool, but they don't really fit halo I think.

Re: Halo: Reach
Actually, Rasq and I were discussing the impracticality of a Star Fox-esq space fighter almost right after the E3 segment. How exactly is the time it takes for a completely reasonable response to a confusing act on Bungie's part takes to arise a reaction has relevance, who knows? Arguably, the faster something warrants a negative reaction, the more deserving of one it is.
Also, take note of how I said it's still great, just out of place. Many of you being overprotective of
THE FRANCHISE®
seem to be confusing what I said with something I did not actually say.
P.S. Thank you Gauz, for getting it.
What demo!?
...and hopefully they amalgamated Firefight with Forge, something they should have done with ODST.

Re: Halo: Reach
I don't see how it's so Star-Fox like. Because it does barrel-rolls? Lots of fighter games are like that. Barrel rolls like that is standard issue it that kind of stuff.
Also, the inclusion of the Space Battles doesn't seem to have very much of a negative backlash. From what I've seen.
And we're not being overpertective. You gave your opinion with detail, and we did the same. Neither the game itself, nor the FRANCHISE is in danger.

Re: Halo: Reach
The booster part was strange i'll admit. The gravity between Earth, Reach, and Installation 04, are all very close.
Reach has a gravity of 1.08 G's. Earth has a gravity of about 1 G's. The rings to be honest, we don't know. However, we can assume that it isn't radically different. So if the longsword can take off the surface of a ring and get into orbit without a booster rocket, then i'm sure a sabre should be able to too. Unless that is, they decided that leaving that feature out would be a good idea.

Re: Halo: Reach
We can assume a lot of things.
But one's things for sure for me persoally, I'm not about to give Halo Reach any second thoughts because of a space ship having rocket boosters and doing a barrel-roll.
Also, the last thing I really do want to say. This whole space fight is probably just going to be like any other vehicle mission in Halo. Short and sweet. Fight off those Seraph and land here and that's probably it. Not going to change the core gameplay at all. Not that I'm saying your saying that.

Maybe that was a bit ambiguous...
Reach, Earth, and Alpha Halo have very similar gravitational pulls.
I'd just like it to make sense. That's me personally though, i'm sure your standards are lower.

Re: Halo: Reach
Turn to insults huh? Surprise there.
You don't know anything about this ship, perhaps its some new kind of sabre that they are testing. Heavy enough that requires boosters. But still light enough that it can perform in space. Perhaps even they're a new kind of boosters that help it perform such tasks in space. Then again, I'm not a freakin' space craft wizz so I have no idea. But you really think there is absoululy no explation for there being rockets a space fighter? Really? There's nothing at all?
Maybe you just like to bitch and nitpick about anything and everything, but not me personally. I'm not as low as you.

Re: Halo: Reach
The Sabre has a huge out in that it is obviously a prototype. It has energy sheilds, but since UNSC found out energy sheilds the next logical step was put them on space weaponry.
Because it is a prototype, Bungie can pretty much do whatever they want without it as long as they don't have any ridiculous timelines.

My theory is, that either the added shield tech made it too heavy to be able to leave the atmosphere on its own; or that the better engines to put the added weapons/shields in place of them.
Just my thoughts.

I don't see why they're using it. The sabre has two advantages over the Longsword, other than that it sucks.
