that mechanic was in halo 3, but the timing for it was WAY more precise, ie...perfect.

Re: Halo: Reach
That only happend in Halo 3 when the other player had a sword as well. In Reach, they can block the sword without having one themselves.KristallNacht wrote:Vigil wrote:And the Sword is useless against shotguns, especially with the new melee mechanic that allows you to stop the instanta-kill lunge.

Re: Halo: Reach
no, you can block a sword strike in halo 3 with any melee, it just has to be fucking perfect, can also destroy rockets without dying. i've seen it happen.

Re: Halo: Reach
I don't know about that. I mean I've been hit by a sword and not died but I wouldn't call that blocking, just a fluke. Like when you hit someone in the head with the Sniper or stick someone with a plasma and they don't die.

Re: Halo: Reach
No, it's doable. You aren't just being hit and not dying. You're timing a perfect melee to combat the lunge. It was just really really hard to pull off.
Re: Halo: Reach
I doubt it. If you have to be THAT perfect and if it's THAT hard to pull off, then it sounds more like a glitch that would happen on rare occations and not an actaul part of the multiplayer gameplay that's meant to be used like in Reach.

The sword blocking and stuff was NOT in Halo 3.

Re: Halo: Reach
Or rather, the pay off of trying to pull off the melee simply didn't outweigh the cost of it not being reliable for most gamers, and thus not seeing widespread use. Not to mention that it only works, as far as I know, when the sword wielder has no shields (otherwise the melee just takes down their shields).
Re: Halo: Reach
I'm sorry but again, it just sounds like a freak of nature that simply happens on occations to some people. But there wasn't a deffinative "sword block move" in Halo 3 as there is now in Halo Reach.
If the only way it's done is by the way you said then it seems that they didn't put it in the game on purpuse for players to use.

Re: Halo: Reach
Ok wait, so all I'm trying to say is that maybe there was somekind weird way to block the sword in Halo 3, but it wasn't an actual method or move. Just a random occurance.
Maybe I'm wrong, but based on my Halo 3 experience's, that's just how I feel.

Re: Halo: Reach
There was NOT a way to block the lunge in Halo 3 that was intended. Due to the way the lunge worked, it had a long lunge then finishes with the strike. If neither player has host, and there is slight lag, it is possible to beatdown a lunging player before the animation finishes, meaning that the player dies and you don't get hit, resulting in what LOOKS like a block.

Exactly. This is a proper block that can stop a lunge

See! I told you!
Anyways, I enjoy Invasion Slayer better then regular Invasion. Any game mode is better when you have a good team, but this one you really need it.

Re: Halo: Reach
Idk... Invasion seems fairly balanced to me. Obviously spartans are going to be more powerful. They're on the defense; meaning, if they don't win every conflict... they loose. They HAVE to be more powerful for it to work out.
Re: Halo: Reach
Complaining that Spartans are better in Invasion is comparable to complaining that Survivors have more health than Special Infected in Versus and Scavenge.
Re: Halo: Reach
My only complaint about Invasion is that the Elites don't have an anti-vehicle weapon to spawn with, and there might be only one that's in a weapon cache.

Re: Halo: Reach
Elites don't need one.
A tank is pretty easy to take out with Evade.
Warthogs can be taken out with the plasma launcher.

Re: Halo: Reach
If they had major anti-vehicle weapons, though, it would destroy the whole point of having the tank. They can use the plasma pistol, launcher, or board it... and if all else fails, they can steal spartan super-weapons that are bound to wind up in the main part of the map... or they could just dodgeAngatar wrote:My only complaint about Invasion is that the Elites don't have an anti-vehicle weapon to spawn with, and there might be only one that's in a weapon cache.

Re: Halo: Reach
Invasion on that map is a bit... unfair. The elites have to use complete teamwork against the spartans usually (when the core is taken).
They take the core, die, and the spartans camp it forever. The spartans are much closer to it and can spawn on eachother making it very annoying...
especially since the sword is shit in this game...
