So I saw the movie today
and
I thought the Colonel was the best, most awesome, and completely badass person ever.
also, the thin atmosphere was pretty cool
other than that is was okay

I'm not sure if it was thin, so much as toxic (Ironic, on such a pristine planet, no?).BBJynne wrote:So I saw the movie today

I DEFINITELY recall seeing air rush INTO the control room when the Colonel ripped open the door to fire all of his AR ammo and then empty his handgun into the Scorpion... without a rebreather.

Re: Avatar
oh
I suppose it could have been rushing in, but the low gravity made me think it would have been thin, and I couldn't really tell which way the air was moving.
also, Jake was hyperventilating when he couldn't get a mask...
And if the air was toxic, then Jake should have died and his survival was a load of bullshit

Re: Avatar
they can survive for about a minute or two, after four they are dead.
Said in the beginning.

Re: Avatar
Think of it this way.
If the air is 95% nitrogen, then you won't be able to breathe it.
But if you put on a rebreather after two minutes, you should be fine. REALLY lightheaded, minus a few brain cells, but just fine.
So, the air couldn't have been toxic, so much as 'unbreathable'.

Re: Avatar
Yup.
But how did he get a fire going w/o oxygen? And how come the colonel survived past four minutes?

Could be some other gas that's toxic, or even too MUCH oxygen (I doubt that other part...)Nocbl2 wrote:Yup.

And the Colonel WASN'T shooting more than 4 minutes.

Re: Avatar
They didn't say the planet was devoid of oxygen, just that the mix of gasses could not support human life for an extended time.
The Colonel was never without oxygen for more than at LEAST a minute or less.
He shot at the Helicopter thing for maybe a minute, and when he was in the Mech Suit he was breathing air for maybe seven or eight seconds.

Re: Avatar
Not every aspect of the movie has to make sense. You have to sacrifice some understanding for any movie to be good. Take Star Trek for example. When they spit out technical mumbo jumbo, you don't understand it, but you still enjoy the movie.

what I want to say is, I liked that pandora didn't have a perfect, earth-like atmosphere but it also wasn't some toxic death-cocktail either

At the very least, I try to use scientific terms correctly. So, no polycomposites or alloys that can withstand 10000 degrees without melting.

Technobabble is fine, so long as it isn't Retarded and every sentence. I.E. Voyager.
When it gets in the way of the story, then it's a problem.
