Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I wish there could be some sort of Han Solo - type character... one that is not really aligned with either side, but Bioware said they planned to make every character have a clear distinction between good and evil.

A smuggler is good nor evil. They go with who ever pays the most.
And I asked Recon if he meant "smuggler" as a Han Solo type charcter...

Not necessarily a smuggler, just someone who really doesn't give a crap about who wins, but just works to exploit the conflict.
Like, a bounty hunter capable of doing missions for both sides. Bioware said the bounty hunter is Evil no matter what in 'old republic.'

How can bounty hunter be set as evil, Mira was good and she was a bounty hunter in kotor II
and no Aton rand was a retired sith assassin who "pretended" to be a smuggler

It could change from now and when the game come out, but Bioware made it pretty clear that they want EVERYBODY to be distinctly good or evil. Otherwise it would just complicate things I guess.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
So no Jedi turning to the dark side, then later redeming themselves and becoming neutral then?
That's my favourite path.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
is making a guild really needed at this point?
Im sure we can make one when the game comes out, unless there is some kind of bonuses if we do it early

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
To be honest, I probably won't get his game, as I don't see the point of MMO's.
Now I do like the idea of a RPG on Xbox LIVE or Online.
Now I'll bet you're about to say 'they're the same thing.'
They are not.
RPG's have Closure. They have a story with a beginning, middle and a end. Sure a lot nowdays allow you to continue about the world and do quests and play at your leisure.
An MMO has no Beginning or end. There is no overhanging goal for you to work towards. I don't mind grinding levels in an RPG because even though its dull and monotonous, it's working FOR something.
MMO's continue on and on and on, the only goal you have is to keep grinding, and I don't find it at all enjoyable.
Now I've heard what Bioware had to say about this one, who they want to add a fourth pillar of story, but the idea is fundamentally flawed. Sure, they can add background and morality to your character, but will the central story ever conclude? Of course not.
Can you imagine how pissed off everyone would be if after 3-4 months all the deeds done by the Sith Empire caused the Republic to fall and the Sith would rule triumphant, ending the game?
I know I'm going to get a lot of hate from people who love MMO'S, and that's fine, I don't hate you for liking them. I just don't understand the appeal.

that is the whole point of this game

so suck it

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I don't like MMOs either.
Admittedly, EVE online is the only one that has ever actually interested me... and it interested the hell out of me... but it's just.... complicated.
This, however, is made by Bioware, and from that we know, without a doubt, that it will be VERY story focused. Story can very well work in an MMO as long as the developer continuously releases new content for it, which is quite normal in the MMO space.

I think we can put our faith in bioware that a great story is in place for this game.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I like the aspect of being able to run a leading force in a game that isn't just inhabited by NPC's
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
The story can end, After the war both sides would still be devastated and thus the game continues as some resistance is mounted or your trying to finish off whats left of the opposing faction.
