I dont know how long after TES IV this is taking place, but if i'm correct, most of the imperial legion was sent to Skyrim to fight the nords. I'm sure there will be many neat things in skyrim if not more than there were in Cyrodill.
It's 200 years after.

The GI article was very cool. Here's a run-down if you haven't had the chance to read it.

>> Better graphics and environment
>> More mountains and snow, but there's still a variety of scenery as was in Oblivion
>> Dual wielding in combat (shields, weapons, spells, or any combination)
>> Better, faster menus
>> No more skills classes, but they kept the leveling perks from Fallout 3
>> People you're talking to now interact with their environment instead of standing there and staring at you
>> They improved on the "Radient AI" technology, which I'll explain later as it's kind of complicated.
>> Dragons. 'nuff said.
>> Dragon shouts can be used to do a variety of things including call a dragon to fight for you, slow time, or increase stealth
>> You can sprint.

Okay, so I said in there that I'd explain the "Radiant AI" thing. Apparently, it is a system that Bethesda uses to make the game react to everything you do. If a woman asks you to save her son from a cave, the game will check which caves you've been to, choose one you haven't visited yet, and fill it with enemies that are about your level. Quests aren't the only things that this system affects.

NPC behavior is based on many characteristics. What you're carrying, who you've killed or fought, which quests you've completed, your past fighting styles, etc all change how an NPC acts towards you. The following example was given in the GI article: if you kill a shop keeper for giggles, his daughter might inherit the store. She may offer you the same quest as the original owner would have, but she will obviously hate you for killing her father and only do it out of sheer necessity.

This probably all sounds pretty familiar, as much of this sort of thing was in previous Elder Scrolls games. Apparently they added more, though, so that's very exciting. Another example that GI gave was about you dropping a sword in the middle of town instead of selling it. The sword may just lay there, forgotten, but a kid might also chase after you with it and ask if you dropped it on accident. Alternatively, two men might get into a fist fight over who gets the sword that each found sitting there on the ground.

I must say, I'm very excited for Skyrim, even if it does not come out for almost a whole year. I liked Fallout, but I just never felt the same magic as I did from playing Oblivion. Can't wait. I just wish they'd show some gameplay.

The entire game is limited to the Skyrim Provence? Also, is that an official map?

I doubt it. Bethesda said there would be five cities, but that map has eight. I'm sure the artist just pieced together maps of Daggerfall, Marrowind, and Oblivion and then speculated the rest based on canon.

I don't know how you are supposed to beat a dragon if you are a sword based character?
I can totally see some Gandalf or Dumbledore style mage taking one on in some epic battle like the beginning of the Two Towers, or even a Rodin Hood archer dude.
But a pure Warrior class?
I can't even imagine how that'll work, but I trust it will.
I mean, how will melee combat be balanced when half of it is just based around the idea of exchanging blows, which sounds only like mildly effective against dragons

Which reminds me, hopefully using swords will mean more than just block, attack, block, attack, rinse & repeat until profit, like what I felt Oblivion had too much of. Melee combat had no depth, which made me sad and an archer.

Still, the recent screen look really cool.

You can sprint, so I think as a warrior you'll be sprinting up to the dragon and blocking it's fire and attacks with your shield.

Perk system makes more sense, the more you do something, the more you level up in regards to it, so you're not stuck with whatever you thought you might do later when you were setting up your character.

I've recently noticed how much GI influences what people play. Immediately after the Skyrim issue, everyone started playing Oblivion again. Now that the Battlefield 3 issues has arrived, everyone's playing Battlefield 2.

I haven't gotten my Battlefield 3 issue yet but, yeah...I guess that's somewhat true. Course, if it was any other website the result would probably be just the same.

I wanted to play Oblivion anyways way before Skyrim was announced. But I won't lie that the GI article made me want to play it even more to get in the loop ya know? Razz

I'm liking the change to the skills. It was a bit silly that when I was using a one handed blade, it did nothing for my one handed mace/axe skill, as they both are used in the exact same way.

It was also weird the way you leveled up. (Get 10 skill increases in your major abilities then sleep). I doubt that will return, and it will be more like the Fallout 3 EXP system.
