Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
If you think yes, you'll be very pleased.

Hopefully the game wont be solely about getting to level bajillion like every other MMO. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this.
EDIT:
EDIT 2:
And now everything goes down hill.

Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
Old news? ... It was announced less than a day ago! And why rage about it? I think it has a lot of potential. There's nothing wrong with the concept of an MMO - the problem is that most implementations of an MMO are created for the single purpose of milking money out of ignorant people.

I like the elder scrolls, a LOT, yet at the same time I hate it when because something is successful it is considered to turn into an mmo.

Examples are.... Star Wars (which was arguably a decent game).... and... Star Trek (also somewhat arguable)... and... ....Age of Empires... and... umm....?Gauz wrote:I like the elder scrolls, a LOT, yet at the same time I hate it when because something is successful it is considered to turn into an mmo.

Keyword: Arguably.
There are more than what's just off the top of your head, i'm sure.
All in all though, I think an Elder Scroll MMO would be cool. I would totally be a breton. Bretons are the best men.

Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
Not true, Warcraft is an actually good MMO.
The reason I dislike most MMO's is because of WoW though, because WoW is the ultimate standard of comparison here.
That and most MMO's fail to get past the main problems of MMO as made popular initially by WoW. Mostly grinding.
However if a game can get past such limitations (Guild Wars 2) then I'm totally open to receiving it. Then again new gen MMO's have requirements higher than LoL so I'm basically fucked.

Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
No MMO that came before WoW has been unseated. Nearly every one that has come after has failed miserably, and those that succeed mostly succeed on hopes and dreams, not serious money.

Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
I'm sorry but does anyone have any actual information other than the fact they're making it? I'd like to know what they're doing to make it any different than WoW or what GW2 is doing.
At this rate knowing the history of MMO's in a post-WoW world I have no reason to believe this'll be anything but a second-rate knock off piece of shit generic MMO.

Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
I don't care if Elder Scrolls Online become more popular than WoW any more than I cared if Halo Reach would become more popular than Modern Warfare 2. We all know which is better in the end, so I'm excited reguardless.
Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
Pity that's how games are judged now not on the content but whats popular.
MMO conversions will keep failing for as long as they keep copying Wow, If developers really want to kill wow they would stop making MMOs since Blizzard just takes the best parts of failed MMOs every few years and adds them onto Wow.The Mists of Panderia expo they are releasing is supposed to have good writing and story, Hmm sounds familiar.
If an Elder scrolls MMO is going to work they need to drop the three sided war, it wont work, Elder scrolls has strength in two big things needed for Rpgs, Lore and Exploration and with Skyrim better gameplay. Now MMO's traditionally throw out the first two except when they need to justify something.
An Elder scrolls MMO can have its war story but it should be Privatised to servers with 50 people are so akin to multiplayer servers. Multiplayer is nice but towns with 400+ players gets rediculous, If you walk into Whiterun, yes you can have some players running around but not fifty standing infront of the smith and another fifty infront of theWeirwood Gildergreen selling crap that's dumb. Exiting the starting Dungeon (cause there's one in every elder scrolls) and finding a good group of people all stacked together in a blob when your supposed to be taken back by the scenery is also just unneeded.
It would be successful (and be what people have been asking for in tons of Rpgs) if it was just the game, except your friends are also when playing are also playing within the same world and you can pass them in town, Quest with them, kill each other, quest against each other and on and on. It feels more Unique when there isn't fifty people in line to do the same quest you just did. Killing a dragon is much less fun when everyone and thier neighbor have killed the same dragon, some of them multiple times to get a good drop.

In the first Elder Scrolls, it took several real time hours if you wanted to walk to another province.

I wish they would include the other continents, but if they can keep this game alive they'll definitely be expansion packs.

Re: Wouldn't Skyrim Make a Good MMO?
Tamriel is huge. We're talking (Skyrim + Oblivion + Morrowind) x 2. Servers of 300 to 500 wouldn't be unreasonable - although it might get a little messy with anything bigger than that. I feel like a 50-player cap would feel pretty barren.
Again, it will be fine so long as the goal of the game isn't to upset WoW. Idk why that has to be the thing with MMOs. Shooters aren't all made to upset CoD, so why should all MMOs try so hard to upset WoW?EVE is a great example; it has done very well for itself even while WoW continues to run because EVE didn't just try to improve WoW - it made its own game.
Please... please don't litter every available space with enemies that are all equally spaced apart. That just ruins the immersion.
