Canned is best, last long and easy to prepare as long as you have a lighter.

Re: Zombies
Here's my zombie survival plan:
Prior to the loss of communications, I'm sure I would have heard rumors of zombies. At that point I would have collected a great number of necessary items (including food, water, entertainment, and an M1grand) in a duffel bag.
Upon the loss of communication, I will take my duffel bag, get in my car (assuming I'm driving. Hell, I'd drive even if i didn't have a license) and go down to lake Cumberland (which is many states away) and steal a house boat. I would then travel out to see and tie my boat to an island where I would live out my life.
I would occasionally go searching for fellow survivors, hopefully, eventually, starting an entire colony. every year I will send out scouting teams to check on mainland to see how things are going.

Yes...
And please use the space between your ears. If you cook the meat properly, it will kill the viruses.
And now for your two best sources of food during the Zombie Outbreak.
During the first twenty four hours, it is IMPERATIVE that you commandeer a pickup or an SUV, and then drive around and get food from fast food chains.
It makes perfect sense. During the Apocalypse, everyone and their dog is going to go to the supermarket, or the gun shop, or the local National Guard base. NOBODY will stop for a Big Mac. And each fast food chain contains enough food for several months. Be sure to hit a variety of places, as hamburger gets old after a while.
And come back for the deep-fat fryer later.
The next place to hit: Vending machines.
Carry around a crowbar to get into these, they are worth it. They are usually in groups and contain enough bottled drinks to last a while. And save the bottles: you will need them.
And one last point for tonight: Your melee weapon of choice.
Of course, melee with Zombies should always be avoided. However, sometimes you don't have a choice, and melee weapons are great for opening doors and containers.
But swords are pretty limited, and chainsaws are cumbersome and suck gas.
So, be sure to pick up a FUBAR.
Notice the hammer head, perfect for smashing drywall and zombie heads? Or the wrench, perfect for tearing two-by-fours and limbs? Or the crowbar tip, great for opening vending machines and locked doors? And then there's the edge below the hammer head, which can be honed to a razor sharpness.

Re: Zombies
Also Samuri swords are not very effective if you do not have the skill to use them which most of us do not.
