I believe this was Activisions doing, as only a week before they announced this, they were say it WAS going to have dedicated servers.

I heard speculation that they would implement it later.....for a fee.

Yeah, fucking Activision. IW are just as bad for being pussy-whipping into allowing this shit, and they're even worse if it was their idea in the first place.

PC gaming market is going to shit though because of pirating. Given how ignorant the average consumer is, most companies can't be bothered with effective DRM solutions because people are just too fucking stupid to work it out. Removing dedicated servers does make it a lot easier to manage piracy, so I can see why they took that path.
But, Activision being the stupidly fucking ignorant company that they are obviously have no understanding of the PC gaming community, and now they're up against a boycott that'd probably cut about 10-20% off of their profits.

gg, oh well.
I'm gonna buy this on 360 anyway.

Hmm...I wonder if the UK/Europe Boycott and the PC boycott will have any effect....

Sure It will still be the best selling game of this year with people not shutting up about it until November next year, but I hope they at least dent it.

I, for one, liked Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare and will be getting Modern Warfare Two.

P.S. Even if I had to kill a few Russian in the game... Sad

The player gets to KILL civilians?

Its like my sickest fantasies come true Very Happy

JK, but quite honestly people who freak out about it are douches that need to realize that it is a video game. Is it wrong to potray this? Not at all, stuff like this happens a lot nowadays... unfortuently.

Some people experience this in real life, first hand, so why should other people be enlightened?

At least this is... a little gratuitous.

I mean, the Mass Effect "sex scene" featured the a side-boob, and a fraction of an ass.

This portrays hundreds of civilians being gunned down in an airport.

I don't have a problem with it, and I think that, based on the great job that the original Modern Warfare did with putting you in the perspective of certain characters (like the guy who gets executed at the beginning,) this should turn out really good.... but here I at least see where people could get upset.

Agreed.

I think we can all see one side of the arugument of artistic expression and the other side of crossing the line.

But It's a pretty neutral thing for me sence like I just said, I can agree with both sides.

Well GTA has been doing this for years, and no one seems to have gone on genocidial rages.

So I doubt it will cause an increase in Airport massacres Razz

Yes, to answer rots question.

GTA does it for shits and giggles, and quite frankly, no one cares anymore. Now IW decides to potray this instance and some people think "Whoa there buddy, you've crossed the line..."

1) You dont have to play it

2) If you're worried about your kid, you don't have to buy it.

3) It says M: MATURE for a reason people.

I don't like it when people rant on games with "violent content" or "sexual content". Movies do this all the time, and they ALSO have a rating system.

I just don't think it's a good idea to let the player have the terrorists' perspective for this particular part of the game.

Maybe as a civilian running for cover, but this...

It says you'll have the option to skip this, and I for one will.

1. FOX will undoubtly not hear the full case and present a full case an miss important things, as they did with the Mass Effect "sex" scene. (Btw, this was only obtainable through the player enegaging in certian side things).

2. The scene is COMPLETELY skip-able

3. There is a logical reason for them to add this; I am sure of it.

4. Gauz makes good points through his reasons as well.

I for one, think PiE's idea of being a civilian could have worked as well, but IW must have a reason to put the gun in your hands as the operative with the terrorists.

its to understand why they are fighting or some nonsense like that. Give you the enemy perspective for a scene and you have a diffren't outlook on the people you are shooting.

Otherwise it's just a WW2 Game with terrorists instead of Nazi's

I think it's as simple as requesting the audience do something deplorable in order to intensify the emotion in the act. We see some guy gun down an airport like in Die Hard 2, that sucks, but we've seen it all before. Putting us behind the trigger makes it more personal, adding guilt and revenge into the mix.

Just like 'Shock and Awe' and the execution, it's all about putting us in the shoes of the characters. I'll probably play through it once; but I won't enjoy it, dammit.

It's designed to knee jerk a reaction out of the player, much like the beginning of the first game where you play as the ousted President as he is taken to his execution and the death of the American solider in the nuclear fallout..

I understand why they are doing it, but they are better ways of doing these things.
