lol, I've noticed that very often there are problems with the timers for making things. They will occasionally start at 0:00:00 instead of their correct time, thus allowing me to build things instantly.

Thats not a mistake, that is due to you building up "construction points" which makes your buildings build faster(instantly if you have more points then the building has time)

You earn or buy them, then they take X amount of time away from w/e you're building, making it build that much faster.

For every 6 minutes of you not building anything you get a single minute of construction points.

it goes to a maximum of 30 minutes unless you upgrade more and more.

You guys don't have to play, me and UNSC will just take over it ourselves.
