But you can have open world without the RPG. GTA, for example, is an open world game. Fallout 3 is RPG.

Anyways, Halo ODST (horrible name) is likely linear as it is an expansion and made by a small team.

GTA(maybe, maybe not. Open world games tend to have a more linear storyline than GTA)
Total War Series(again, this does not have a set storyline, but I can't classify it as an RPG)

The difference is pretty obvious, in general terms if its not completely stupid and ridiculous then it's an open world. If it is, then it's an RPG.

ummm.... dud? you're getting RPGs confused with MMOs.

An RPG is something like Mass Effect, Fallout 3, or Oblivion. They are nowhere near as mindless and stupid as WoW. In fact, they are great games.

It's part turn based, part real time, and it's played in an open world setting. So I guess it's a TB/RTS open world game.

Although it is technically open world, I don't really make the effort to classify it as such. Doing so is a bit picky. I'd just call it a TB/RTS
