if there were any game series that would work fantastically for total war style gameplay, it would definately be warhammer

Rome 2 specifically, but even games like medieval 2, which I do still think is a fine game, sacrificed a lot of good things from medieval 1 to try and look prettier, and thusly the game plays less well
the finishing move animations being the big thing... as it forces 2 units to fight a pre-determined battle and you will never have variables like one of the soldiers turning to help the person standing next to him, at his own risk.
so the game looks pretty, but the battles are less variable.
