TCF's Vote on the Republican Nomination
Who do you guys want to win the Republican Nomination this year? Obama's obviously got the Democratic nomination, so I wont even bother with that. If you want Obama to win, though, feel free to chime in. I'll try to keep an active tally on this post.
Furthermore, what do you guys think makes a good candidate? I'll answer myself after a few posts.
NOTE: I don't want this to turn into a debate thread. You can post comments on why you made your choice and even comment on others' comments, but no active debating.
TCF Nomination Tally
Newt Gingrich - 0
Mitt Romney - 0
Rick Santorum - 2
Ron Paul - 2
Throw-Away Votes
Vermin Supreme - 1
Harbringer - 1
Cave Johnson - 2
Reapers - 2
Cthulhu - 1
Spock - 2

Re: TCF's Vote on the Republican Nomination
why isn't this a poll?
CivBase Edit: Because polls are messy and I don't like it when a few people vote but nobody say anything

Re: TCF's Vote on the Republican Nomination
Well, I used to be Republican. Right now, I'm right of center, but completely fed up with organized parties.
Ron Paul looks like the lesser of the evils presented. Newt Gingrich started out strong for me, then he couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Who the Hell is Rick Santorum?

Ron Paul. He just seems much more informed and has guiding values as opposed to end results that don't match up.

Only reason i'm considering him. Even if he has an Isolationist mentality.
but chances are the Republican voters will go with Romney effectively making me vote for Obama. Rather have him again then most of the Republicans that are running.

Voting for a person supporting an issue is more likely to get a more popular candidate to acknowledge the issue than not voting and seeing no effect.laxspartan007 wrote:yea, but then you wouldnt have a chance at who you vote for even having a percent of the votes...or just dont vote...

Re: TCF's Vote on the Republican Nomination
The Reaper Subservience Party of America has a strongly pro-human platform, and where other parties bicker amongst themselves and claim to have 'dismissed us', we will get things done. Our track record is one long string of successes stretching back through before most any other modern party was created. We also have a history of brokering peace, and sometime around the last election, we rode into power by reaching an accord with formerly isolationist elements and with the youth vote. Indeed, many of the volunteered who campaigned for us were less than a week old. Unfortunately, our candidate died before he could assume control.Gauz wrote:I'm split between Cave Johnson's Lemon Party or The Reapers...
Should we come to power, we pledge to end unemployment and fix our nation's broken education system with the miracle of Indoctrination. We will utterly reform our broken political system, permanently resolve the national debt crisis, and tackle our nation's wealth disparity. Those issues will be a thing of the past.
Remember, a vote for RSPA is a vote for Human Ascension... Well, for some of us. In some form or another.
To be honest, we're not quite clear on that part, and we're too afraid to ask.

Re: TCF's Vote on the Republican Nomination
When the candidates rolled through Iowa, I hadn't seen enough about any of them to really make a decision so I just didn't vote. However, over the past couple weeks I've seen a lot of stuff I like about Santorum. With Bachman out, he probably would have won Iowa too.
He doesn't have as long of a political record as Romney, Paul, or Gingrich... but I think that's for the better. He appears to be well informed on issues and he has demonstrated the capacity to use reason quickly and efficiently to make tough decisions.
The most important quality I like about him, though, is something that he doesn't campaign on. Most other Republican candidates push conservative ideals simply because they are Republican. Santorum appears (to me, at least) to have developed his ideals on his own through experience and reasoning and then aligned himself as Republican because that's where those ideals fit.
In short he's a Republican because of his conservative ideals; not his ideals are conservative because he's a Republican. Values come before the party.
That leads me to my answer on what the most important quality of a candidate is (imo). I think, above all else, a candidate should have a set of ideals and values that have been developed independent of political affiliations through experience, reasoning, and morality.
Nothing against Ron Paul... I just don't like his foreign policy.
