Re: E3 2011 Megathread
Meh... IMO, video games have reached a point where having better graphics doesn't contribute anything. I'm not saying we should go back to N64-style graphics... but there are far more important things for developers to be worried about.Elabajaba wrote:The Wii U sounds bad, hardware wise. (Only runs games at the level of Xbox 360 and PS3, which are both about 5 years old now)
For me, the graphic power of a console is no longer very important.

Actually...they did announce a new Battlefront game. They got rid of the playable hero feature, though

That's a link for Battlefield 3
But if they're making a new Battlefront then I suddenly got a lot more excited!
I doubt anything will ever reach the insane awesomeness that was the leaked footage a couple of years ago tho.

Meh, people are always saying that. I remember thinking when i was playing H3 and CoD4 that graphics don't need to get any better than that. Go play those games now, and i'm happy graphics keeps moving forward.CivBase wrote:Meh... IMO, video games have reached a point where having better graphics doesn't contribute anything. Graphics will be perfect when video games are indistinguishable from real life.

I think the most important thing to work on now would be making games more expansive. Let's see a game twice the size of anything Bethesda has made, for example.

Have you seen the Mass Effect 3 trailer yet?

Anyway, I just got done playing The Old Republic. I was thoroughly impressed. From a graphics standpoint, it is superior to other MMOs out there, including WoW. From a gameplay standpoint, it is very solid. The plot seems reminiscent to the level that KotOR demonstrated, but with multiplayer. Now, I only played with like nine other people, and things felt a little crowded, but that was mainly because we were all trying to get as much out of our 15 minutes as possible.
I got to play as a Jedi Consular, level 1. All the Jedi players, such as myself, started on Tythar, I believe it was called (I'm not sure if anyone even chose to be a Trooper). The different classes got different quests, but could group up if they wanted. For example, as a Consular, my starting quest was to rescue four holoprojectors that were under threat by some flesh raiders. The Jedi Knight next to me had some other quest. However, we shared sidequests (rescue captured padawans) and bonus quests (kill 15 flesh raiders). In the allotted 15 minutes, I managed to get through the starting dialog without skipping anything and complete the first part of the main quest as well as the bonus quest. It was quite a bit of fun.
Jedi Consular start out with 3 combat abilities, a1 buff ability, 1 recover ability, and 1 recall ability. The combat abilities were a regular melee attack, a ranged force ability that throws a chunk of debris at enemies (requires focus points), and a force-enhanced double slash (requires focus points). The buff was a pretty standard +everything ordeal. The recall works like a hearthstone. The recovery can only be used out of combat, and just heals and regens focus points.
All in all, I rather enjoyed it. Plot looks great. Gameplay looks great.

Re: E3 2011 Megathread
I play my Nintendo DS more than my 360 on certain months, Graphics really arent an issue to me as long as i can see whats going on.
Sometimes games go overboard on the graphics and dust and lense glare that you want to stab your eyes with a pencil, Sure it looks pretty, can i see what i'm supposed to do, No? Fail.

Re: E3 2011 Megathread
I appreciate graphics but not in like a 'more real is better'. Style is a Major thing there.
Okami had by no means the best graphics, but no one could argue that it wasn't beautiful.
Shadow of the Colossus was generally simple with recurring textures and a severely limited color palette, but it too was beautiful.
Generally speaking, detail is more important than photorealism. I wouldn't mind toning down BF3s graphics a tad if it got everything correct in its presentation (reflection dampeners on ACOGs. ACOGs on all Marine weapons. Fire selector actually moving).

Re: E3 2011 Megathread
Hopefully the next-gen of consoles will be a bit more RTS friendly.
*fingers crossed*
An RTS attachment or something would be cool. It could be kinda like the current keyboard attachment, but with fewer buttons (and larger)... or maybe a mouse-ish attachment.

Re: E3 2011 Megathread
Or maybe something that is like a smartboard using kinect. I imagine that would work well, too.

Remember that early trailer for RUSE which had the guys manipulating their forces by hand on a CGI map on a table?
Now translate that kinda idea and I think it would be pretty cool, if it was responsive enough.
Ubisoft seem to be the most likely to do it, given what Endwar and RUSE tried to do, but they both seemed to be half steps as they both weren't the best games.
So I'm all for a Kinect RTS game, if they can make it responsive enough to do fast movements and micro.
