Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
At one point of the game they had the Reaper which is already considered to be one of the fastest units in the game at 2.9531 be 3.38, have the ability to see over ledges if they are on the bottom, jump over those ledges because of the jump jets, didn't require a techlab to be made, give them a nitro pack upgrade which takes their speed to 4.25 (the mutalisk which is fast as hell has a speed of 3.75), they do massive damage to buildings, AND on top of all that give them the ability to heal outside of battle ridiculously quick.
This is all for ONE UNIT.
So no, I do not trust them whole heartedly and think that they can do no wrong in balancing.

With that Reaper rushing would win every game.
The way to defend it now is to go early Qeen and have a Spine up but with all those upgrades the Reapers could EASILY kite around them 20x easier then they do now and then just run off and heal before coming in and doing it again.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
Two things:
As far as I know, Blizzard's approach to balancing has usually been "Introduce an overpowered unit, and then nerf it until we're satisfied.*"
Also, I figured that part of the process involved making certain strategies more viable, and then studying the ripple effect and new counter-strategies.
Uber-Reapers and upgrade-less Siege Tanks is probably pushing it a little far...
*Used to be "Nerf it until the whining stops, but they know better than that now.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
I'm completely okay with all those fuck ups they did with the Reaper as long as it's fixed and balanced out come launch day.
But i'm not going to turn a blind eye and put my fingers in my ears going "NAH NAH NAH I CAN'T HEAR YOU" and say that it's impossible for Blizzard to mess up balancing.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
Were you in the beta, NT? Because my buddy (who was briefly in Grand Masters on his EU account and mains Zerg) was, and all of my points come directly from his experiences. I wouldn't mind them making units OP and then nerfing them down if they spread the love a bit. But, as it stands, Terran has had four or five OP units (Warhound, Battlecruiser, Siege Tank, Reaper, and arguably Medivac), while Zerg has had one (Ultralisk was somewhat broken when Burrow Charge was innate, rather than a research). Meanwhile, Zerg's other units are being nerfed all over. Blizzard's justification for repeatedly nerfing Infestor was "we don't want people to use it anymore".
Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
and that's still just HIS experience. Could it be that his strategy was just vulnerable to the changes that they made, and not that the changes are gamebreaking? The reality of a true warrior is the ability to adapt. Welcome the new challenges.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
There's a difference between having to adapt and being dealt a shit hand. Blizzard is dealing us a shit hand. They've nerfed pretty much all of our units into the ground, and they've buffed Terran to the point that Zerg can't beat them. Six Siege Tanks walk into a bar at the six minute mark. There is no counter.
Terran now has the best early game, the best mid game, and the best late game. This goes beyond them being flavor of the year in Wings of Liberty. In WoL, Terran beat Zerg if both players were of equal skill level. But now, Terran beats Zerg even when the Zerg player is more skilled. In order for Zerg to beat Terran, the Terran player has to be retarded, like turtle on one base or something of that nature.
If this were a single player game, I wouldn't mind nearly as much. I mean, if we have to be Zerg, it's ok for the AI opponents to be OP, because they can just use scripting to prevent them from abusing the imbalance. But this is a multi player game. This is a game that Blizzard is selling as a competitive, tournament-level game. And balance is part of the deal. For them to even consider some of the shit that has been in the beta is evidence that they've lost all touch with the very concept of balance.
"We felt like Archons were too powerful, because they effectively countered Zerg, so we took them out. Then we gave Terran the Warhound, which effectively counters Protoss."
"The Battlecruiser is arguably the single-most powerful end game unit, because it can attack both ground and air units, has an incredibly high DPS, and outranges most other end game units with it's Yamamoto Cannon. It's one weakness was that it was slow. So we gave it Redline Reactor to increase its speed and damage output."
"We feel like Zerg use Infestor too much, probably because they have no other way to fight Terran bio ball. So we nerfed it. But Zerg players kept using it out of this misplaced sense of affection, so we nerfed it three more times."

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
I really enjoyed the campaign.
Every mission was fun and enjoyable. I played through normal quite easily and could win every mission with pretty much just my specially upgraded zerglings and Kerrigan.
Gonna try on hard next and switch up my tactics, but I love just making like a hundred zerglings, a moving to the enemy base and just saying "sick em boys".

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
I've been doing the same thing. I spam Raptors and typically one other unit (like Mutalisks). Kerrigan goes in and does the heavy lifting, and then my Raptors deal with the buildings. I've finished Char and Zeras, and I've enjoyed the campaign so far.
Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
Gawd I love raptors, otherwise they are just so fucking slow.
Also they have like 40% (+2) more damage which is nice.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
All I remember from Brood Wars was Kerrigan getting tricked into a fight, the new overmind getting his shit rocked, and some black infested terran guy that came the fuck out of nowhere to help Kerrigan.
Hmm......Maybe i'll marathon all the games. I have all of them afterall.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
From what I can tell, Stukov was killed, revived and infected, cured, and then captured by everyone's favorite Xel Naga servant.
In case you're wondering, P, that guy you fight at the end of the hybrid factory is the "infested" black guy from Brood War.

Re: Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm
I never finished SC I or Brood War. I got up to the very beginning of the Zerg Campaign, and then I never played it again.
