I think I'm halfway through with it, and its pretty good...
Well, yeah, there's fanservice involving one of the main characters, who is underage, but hey. It's Japan.

KristallNacht wrote:oh, and the new Evangelion movies are badass. It's a great reimagining with lots of new plot.
I've been meaning to watch those.
And rewatch the series.
Might just make a marathon of it one of these weekends.
Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
I heard Evangelion was good until the end which made no sense, and they made the movies to clarify it and it still made no sense.
Part of the reason I've stayed away.
Also, if I'm going to talk Anime, yes I like DBZ, even it is super dumb and repeatitive.
I still like all the studio ghibli stuff. The Japanese disney knows his shit.
Also liked Paprika. I can see how that inspired inception.
Edit: Now I have more time, LP got me into Hellsing and I've watched quite a few of the OVA's of that.

Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
Once the whole crew was assembled it got hilarious.
Manga anyway. Didn't watch anime. Just don't watch to much. It takes like 24 or so minutes to watch a single episode where as I could read quite a few chapters in that time of the manga.

Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
I have a close friend who has a ton of manga. He kinda has the same mindset as you as he can read them faster than the watching the anime.
I had to stop watching DBZ after a while because it's a good 20 minutes of filler episode and then another 4-5 episodes until you get to the next important plot point, and unfortunately, I just don't have the time right now to sit through all that.

Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
Also there is generally less filler in a manga.
Anime they can have a shit ton of filler like Bleach had and entire ARC that was filler and I was advised to skip over it (the Bount? idk, I gave up on it after that)
Naruto has something like a hundred fucking episodes between the Sauske being taken thing and Shuppiden which adds nothing real to the story (gave up at that filler as well)
Dragon Ball Z doesn't usually have filler arcs and episodes, but they do notoriously extend fights for long periods of time.
Can't comment on to many others since I don't watch anime alot if at all. Tried to watch the mermaid thing on Seaths recommendations but I gave up after 3 episodes cause I just don't like dedicating 25 minutes to a single episode and nothing really happening whereas I can read the manga and finish quite a few books and be in the story.
Anime you'd have to watch generally 5 episodes of character introduction and establishment along with setting building before it hits the actual plot and by then it's already been about 2 hours of video.
I did watch Bakemonogatari not to long ago and loved that though. Recommend it to those that like Dark animes. Also know there is not a previous season. It starts off with no God damn warning or explanation about the characters or why things are how they are or anything. It's like they started the series in the middle of the season without any beginning. Put me off balance at first but it's an awesome show.
Only like 6 or 8 episodes though which made me sad. Think they are making a second season.

The first 24 episodes are solid. The 25-26 are VERY appropriate but at the same time lack a solid segway from the 24th episode. The Death and Rebirth Movie replaced the last 2 Episodes with something a bit less mental.
The new movies are a complete reimagining of the entire series with new characters, changes to some characters personalities, and lots of new content. It's still very faithful to the original in that lots of scenes are nearly the same just in HD, but the second movie gets to just about the end of the series main plot points, and there's still 2 more to go.
All in all the new movies are a GREAT addition. And this series is NOT one to skip over for any reason whatsoever.

Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
One piece too likes to have fillers sometimes, and the events that happen sometimes have the tendency to drag on, but that's not often enough to get annoying imo

The Saiyaman Saga was all filler, and you could probably say the same of the Garlic Jr saga (Yes I know that was not in the manga, but still it's a dumb saga.)

Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
Filler arcs are almost always not in the manga. That's what typically makes them filler.
Re: best Anime EVAR!!!!
Well since since I've been gone I actually got into Anime again a year ago I just wanted to post in this thread real quick. Yea good shows for the most part listed.
Code Geass's season 2 ending was great
need to rewatch NGE so I can get into the new movies.

Azumanga Daioh was the perfect combination of random and crazy to appeal to me. When Osaka wakes up her teacher with the frying pan... <333
