There is actually a PS3 MMO in the works called "The Agency."
I don't know much about it though.

Re: Console MMO
Alot of the probelms with a console MMO you guys seem to be bringing up relate to the servers, voice chat, etc.(as well as the fact that consoles last half a decade)
SERVER ISSUES: Think of PC MMO's. They have little server issues, and half the people on the MMO's have dial-up to begin with. With consoles it would be even better because everyone has high speed so there wouldn't be any major lag issues.
*On the issue of having the entire game world as one 'area', this could be possible by only rendering the player's immediate area. Basically, as the player moves, the game slowly renders their surroundings that are new and drops the old ones(basically what most games do, except rather than having an area do a 'bulk' load it as a smooth transition)
VOICE CHAT: This isn't as hard as you guys make it seem. Keep in mind that the console online services, like XBL, allow the user's to connect to each other with a service that is outside of the game they are playing.
Also, so long as the player only hears who is in their party during the game, and nearby people within earshot, there should not be too many problems with a voice chat system.
CONSOLE LIFESPAN: This is simple, When a new console is out, just make sure the game is compatable with the new system.

Re: Console MMO
I still like my idea the most.
Divide it up into regions, with a server dedicated to each region.

Re: Console MMO
Several reasons why.
Reason #1: Have you seen how much memory a game like WoW takes up?
Reason #2: MMOs need central operating servers, and would need even more power for graphics that the console fans would demand.
Reason #3: The best way to do it would to have a distributed computing system on all the XBoxes... a task at which they failed, by the way.
