Console MMO
Anyone else ever wondered why these haven't been introduced yet? I think it would be a good idea. I would ever pay a monthly fee for an MMO, but others definitely do. Mind you, it would be more likely a first-person RPG like Fallout/Oblivion than an RTS like Ogame/AE or a third-person RPG like WoW/Warhammer.
Re: Console MMO
i would give it a go if someone made a game like that

Re: Console MMO
Nothing is free anymore...
It would probably just cost around 400-800 Microsoft Points per month or something like that.

because big companies like blizzard need a monthly income and if people are spending money for a game and not subscribing they are not getting monthly income which would get cut anyway because Microsoft would take some of the subscription money resulting in blizzard putting the price up and and resulting in the price putting people off
and to play a MMO a key board is needed..... lol

And you don't always need a keyboard. Many console-based RPGs now-a-day would work fine as MMOs.

Re: Console MMO
WoW works very similar Runescape, though with 1000x better graphics and gameplay. I don't need to download the trial to tell you that it would work. If you can get an RTS to work on a console, I doubt WoW would be very hard.
Re: Console MMO
and if they do they could make it go to third and first person like in oblivion or make it over the shoulder like in mass effect of do a mix of bothCivBase wrote:WoW works very similar Runescape, though with 1000x better graphics and gameplay. There are a few online games like Phantasy Star online, Conan, and others I don't really give a damn about looking for.

Re: Console MMO
They don't put rts' on console becasue there's no point. Most console gamers may not have next gen hardware in their PC's, but just about all of them have a computer good enough to run WoW.
Communication would be another issue. In the case of WoW, most players are forced to go into ventrillo chats because WoW server chat does not hold up. There really is no equivalent to this on console. They could go into personal chats, but that only supports 8 player.
Due to the lack of good voice chat, users would be forced to use text when working with their group/guild. This would be a problem, as most people do not have a mini 360 controller keyboard on their console.
In other words, the huge PC style MMOs could not be done on console. You would have to create an MMO specifically for consoles, an extremely costly endeavor that would be VERY risky.
It has not yet been determined if the average console gamer is as dedicated as the PC gamer, to be paying 15 dollars a month.
Some of this could be solved with use of a keyboard, but Microsoft declares it against the rules for games to require a keyboard.
Also, consoles last some six or so years. An MMO would have to be released year one on a new system to get a decent life-span. That would be long before developers have... developed... a good understanding for the system they're building on.
In the end, MMOs are fine where they are, and they have no reason to switch over.
Both of the games you mentioned have VERY simple combat systems as compared to MMOs. That kind of combat is fine for a shooter or action game, but MMOs require a much larger, RTS level, amount of variety in combat.

Re: Console MMO
As I've said before, I one day plan on being a video game designer.
One of the games I thought of actually inspired my book(that I haven't even touched in like 2 months) Blood Red Mercury.
The game would be a console MMO that takes place entirely on New Mercury and the space around it.
Unlike other MMO's, it would all take place in one simultanious world.
The game area would literally take up an entire planet(slightly larger than Earth).
I plan to do this by dividing the planet into regions.
Each region would have its own dedicated server, and the servers would be connected, so players could travel from region to region, with no loading bar. There would obviously be slight delays, and a LOADING notification at the bottom of the screen.

Re: Console MMO
An effective voice chat system wouldn't be hard to do. And RT, most people have a good enough computer to run CNC3, but I see people playing it on the 360 quite often.

Multi-person voice chat for millions of users takes A LOT of dedicated servers to run well. Even WoW's Voice chat is horrible. That's why people use vent.

Yeah... and the 360 version of C&C3 is a very chopped port of the PC version
