That's not actually true. Homosexuals can get married in any state they choose. Just not to other members of their same sex. And, what do you know, straight people can't get married to members of the same sex either.

Because marriage is supposed to be exclusive between man (of appropriate age) and woman (of appropriate age).

Man wants to marry man, woman wants to marry horse...

And, as per Rot, it's not discrimination as straits are bound by the same rules.

Can they still get the thing that's the same as married but without them being bound in the eyes of God? Like a legal marriage?

Civil partnership I think it's called.

I, personally, am not against Civil Unions, no. My main opposition to gay marriage is that marriage is symbolic to the church, and just because the government is borrowing a religious institution doesn't mean they can change all the rules as they please. I wouldn't even mind if all people got Civil Unions, and marriage was a completely separate thing having little or no involvement with the government.

And your point? I don't see how it is discrimination if the rules apply to everyone, not just certain groups of people.

Post by Gauz Fri Sep 04, 2009 5:28 pm

In any case, in reply to Gauz's post, I believe that homosexuality and bisexuality is a mental disease, similar to schizophrenia. Some sorts of visual hallucinations cause the victim to see colors in numbers 0123, which is rather harmless, but can still be treated.
I would rather like to think of it as a development. Although, genetics also has its place in it, but homosexuality is also defined in a human by the persons enviorment. Although, in theory, exposure to certain horomones during fetal development also determines sexual orientation during the adult stages of life.

Personally I would like to not view it as a "defect" just because a majority of people are heterosexual rather than homosexual.

No, but as a religious institution that the government has decided to borrow, we expect that, if nothing else, the very basic core value, union between a man and a woman, be left alone.

Homosexuals should be treated like regular humans and they should act like it.

I honestly do not care if they get married. They believe what they believe and I believe what I believe. We shouldn't go out and kill them just because they are different. And they shouldn't have parades with 200 men in short shorts because then they are just asking for it.

I don't know about over there, but the Gay Pride Parade in Leeds was just a bunch of cheering, colourful flags and local press.

Good times all 'round.

What research? Lets see some citations buddy.

And as for it being a decision.... really? Could you just decide that you want to be attracted to men, and suddenly get aroused by men? I know I couldn't.

Just as people who are straight are NATURALLY attracted to women, gay men are naturally attracted to men. That's just how it works. Is it a complete genetic fuck up? maybe... but so what? Who cares? What you do with your life, as long as it does not affect others negatively, should not be criticized.

Rot wrote:But that's precisely it. Jesus died for our sins, and I have accepted him. Otherwise, I'd be burning in Hell too. And if a gay turns from what I believe to be his sins and accepts Jesus, he won't burn in Hell either.

So, assuming that I am a Christian who has 'accepted Jesus into his heart,' I'll have to pull a last minute abstinence from masturbation if I want to go to Heaven?

really where the research lets see some citations buddy

no i didnt say being gay is a complete choice i said its like being an angry person
some people are naturally more angry and get pissed off easier
but does that mean they have no choice and should never be punished when they get angry and do things? No

and as for your request for research

http://www.worldpolicy.org/projects/globalrights/sexorient/twins.html

if having certain genes made you automatically gay how do you explain 45% of twin not being gay even if the brother is
and remember they live in the same house and had same upbringing

if you need more jut google
homosexuality twin study

the answer?

Hormones. Genes have pretty much nothing to do with it whatsoever.

and theoretically, yes, a gay man can 'choose' to be straight in that he has sex with, and dates women. Doesn't mean he's going to be attracted to them.

so a more proper comparison would be someone who is ALWAYS ANGRY at everything. He can learn to suppress this ever present anger so that society feels better, or he can be himself. the only remaining issue is the fact that being gay hurts NO ONE and being always angry can have consequences.

i am hetero sexual
i do not constantly think about women and am sexually aroused by them

i am only in certain situations or when i see someone smoking hot and flaunting it

and in those situations i control my self
homosexuals can do the same

I am a virgin
no one forced me to

also i dont think that i am going to marry the person that i am the absolutely most attractitted to physically
the person that i one day marry will have to meet certain criteria
it must be a woman
she must be a christian
and i must think that God agrees

if i can do it why cant homosexuals

answer is they can
they choose not to

and your argument against that research is not a good one
the people who do this research (it still continues)
talk about hormones and agree that even still twins more often should be gay i the other one is if they have no choice in the matter

Kslidz, no one chooses who they are attracted to. You do realize saying "they choose not to" makes you sound majorly ignorant. Hormones decide who you will be attracted to in life, there are no choices.
