Re: Guerilla Warfare
I never said it was radar.
I refer to it as 'x ray' lol sincei don't know what it is but it does what x-rays do.

Re: Guerilla Warfare
As interesting as this conversation about how we can see through the ground is...
We should be talking about the topic..
Well PiE you got your answer, so I think that we can officially say this is done. Or like all other threads this one isn't made to be answered... just argued.

From what I heard, spy satalites do use some kind of Radar (obviously not the same kind used in jets) to look a few dozen or so feet underground. It won't give an exact layout, just tell them whether or not what they're looking at is a solid object.

Its not RADAR though. RADAR is an acronym for a specific system.

Seath, I mean they're using some specific wavelength, or I don't know how they do it, I just know that they do it.

Well, not really, but we follow the basic idea of it.
We could blow up the country, but we don't, because there are innocent civilian, well there are heaps of other countries that couldn't care if there are innocent civilians in the area they will blow up, just as long as those innocents belong to the opposing Countries/Force's, then it is fine because they know it will have an impact on the Government.
i agree....
this is why we never got anywhere with fighting these people....
unlike some cultures we have a higher moral code then them
yup yup

It's definitely not x-ray, since all an xray does is shoot radiation through a persons body to a sheet of special "paper" behind it, and the thicker the material the more rays get reflected, and do not end up on the sheet of paper. The result is you can essentially see through the skin. Something like that would not work for tunnels.

My point exactly. And even if they did work, all you get is 2d picture of dirt from a top angle.

Mapping the tunnels likely has to do more with sensors to find distortions casued by tunnles rather than actually sending out a signal to 'scan' them

Re: Guerilla Warfare
We should just remove all the troops from a large radius, and nuke them. (don't consider the consequences, just think in terms of immediately killing lots of them, then having a lot more of them die due to the radiation. That, or "accidentally" bomb/sabotage a nuclear power plant.)

And if they were in American or Allied territory? And most are in deep underground tunnels. Also, they are spread out. Very spread out. And we don't know where they are.
Also, don't screw with radiation. Remember Chernobyl. No one lives there anymore. Some parts are still irradiated. And it cost $200 BILLION DOLLARS to clean up. ( Most expensive disaster in the history of man)

Re: Guerilla Warfare
A nuke would not cause radiation to spread like chernobyl did.
and even if they are hiding, they would probably still be killed, or would not survive for very long as they couldn't leave.

Re: Guerilla Warfare
Seath is right, a nuke does not do what Chernobyl did. That was a entire nuclear reactor that broke down, which cause a nuclear fallout much greater the size and strength of any nuclear bomb.
Nuclear fallout eventually drifts away though..

I was talking about "sabotaging or bombing a nuclear power plant".

you are aware that nuclear powerplants (even the shitty ones in russia) can't really meltdown anymore.
Nuclear power is the safest energy source known to man (not counting solar, but nuclear provides a SHIT load more for less)

If you put a bomb in a nuclear reactor the neutron poisons and neutron moderators are not there to stop the chain reaction because they went KABOOM!
Wikipedia,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_meltdown:
In an uncontrolled power excursion accident, a sudden power spike in the reactor exceeds reactor design specifications due to a sudden increase in reactor reactivity. An uncontrolled power excursion occurs due to significantly altering a parameter that affects the exponential rate of a nuclear chain reaction.
You get a nuclear meltdown.
