You mean religious discussion?
ReconToaster worships steam?
ReconToaster follows a religion?

I wouldn't say I worship steam. Gordon Freeman is the one and only TRUE

So what would Alyx be? A disciple?
As for the game, I played the demo and wasn't really impressed. It's nothing we haven't seen before. RE4 in space.

True, I guess as it's one room, with a few enemies in it, and in the end you get ripped to shreds.
For something that's supposed to sell the game to me, it didn't do a very good job.

Alyx is more like Mary... Except without the virgin part...
I'm on chapter 8 of 12. It's actually a LOT longer than I'd expected. There are some really frustrating moments, and I do wish it would just stop giving me ammo for just about anything other than the plasma cutter, but the game is really good.
It's definitely not scary, though there are a few jumpy moments.
The 0-gravity parts are pretty cool. While the general story concept is awesome, a lot of the game's progressive story line feels a whole lot like work. "Go find this key, go find this button, go back to the bridge for the thirty billionth time, ride this elevator, launch this asteroid"
The backtracking does start to get a little grinding, but it manages to bring enough new areas to each level to hold your interest.
While the game is very good, and despite its length, It has caused me to sort of re-think my stance on pricing. Although I think single player games are VERY important, I'm not sure they're worth $50. My main comparison that I have at the moment is Left 4 Dead. I've been playing Left 4 Dead all the time since it came out, and will likely continue playing it for a long time.
Left 4 Dead has TONS of replayability, and is very long lasting. Deadspace on the other hand, though it is a great game, is a game that after finishing, I will likely never touch again. It simply has no encouragement or reason to keep playing it.
Valve seems to have gotten pricing for things like this down. Each of the half life games cost around $20 dollars. I think a good price for a single player, likely one time experience, is $30.
Games are expensive!
Maybe I just need to get a job...

Re: Dead Space
you don't play through your single player games more than once?
...
the only two games I did that to were some medal of honor and farcry:instincts

With some games I do, but with Deadspace, I can tell it's more of a "one playthrough" sorta game. I just don't really think I'll want to play it again.
With more tricky games like mirror's edge or portal, I enjoy many playthroughs. It's the same with RPGs where there are multiple paths. With shooters, the main reason I typically play through again is co-op.

Dont know about you but I must have played through it like 8 times now. Also, playing it on higher difficulties is a blast and I find it to be a good "you've got nothing better to do" sorta game. And I always have fun playing it at night

Yeah, I may have some fun playing it on harder difficulties, though that fun will come with loads of frustration.

games shouldn't have to be frustrating to be fun.
they might be challenging, but not frustrating.
*wonders what kind of awful crap they've been playing*

It's not that the game itself is frustrating, It's just that I keep dying on "challenging" parts, thus making it frustrating.
I do want to clarify though that I REALLY LIKE dead space. I think I'm just a lot better at pointing out a game's flaws than its good stuff.
The storyline is getting better, and... well.. It just got hella epic towards the end of chapter 8. I also had a few chilling moments while I was just playing. The part where you're on that moving platform going through a narrow, eerily lit passage and a hanging body just pops up in front of you made me jump.

Looks cool... though I never was one for the horror genre. Getting scared just doesn't entertain me.
