Re: Things you look for in a good RTS
Well I've never even seen Starcraft, much less played it (I imagine this will cause much controversy).

Re: Things you look for in a good RTS
Still stupid. Then all you're doing is economy. No military strategy at all.playert wrote:CivBase wrote:So you like when the whole point of the game is to be the first to build a nuke? boreing.PiElord wrote:NUKEZ!
what if it was the first person to build a nuke, but you start out like in the stone age or somthing like that?

At this point, it's too early to provide an initial estimate on the release date. As with all Blizzard games, we will take as much time as needed to ensure the game is as fun, balanced, and polished as possible.

Re: Things you look for in a good RTS
I like games that are not completely dominated by a rock paper scissors balancing system. I like games where you are in control, and have a detailed economy separate to the combat, and where the combat is dependent on planned out strategy coupled with split-second decisions and timing that can save and end thousands of lives with a single click. And after all of that is done, I can go back and review the mass carnage sprawled out around the battlefield.
Yes, I describe Total War.
If economy is abandoned, the game should have extremely detailed and in depth combat.

Re: Things you look for in a good RTS
Total war is a perfect balance between economy, combat, and building. To make a long story short. The 2nd best game I've ever played.

Dow>Total War
Its a matter of a person's taste for games here.
I like Combat more than managing an Economy(unless the game is stronghold) which is why I like Real Time Tactical games alot, Like Dark Omen. Turn Based Tacticals are also awesome, like Final liberation.

Re: Things you look for in a good RTS
TBH WiC was my favorite game, even over Rome. The core gameplay is fun if not addicting, but what makes this game so perfect is just how you can go down into the action, like, I can't even describe it, just being down at the soldiers level watching the chaos of the battle all around you, is just beyond words. The campaign is what I would call perfect and just the level of customization alone sets it apart from everything else.
On top of that Massive gives you amazing and powerful tools for player-made content, along with a strangely supportive modding community and staff. I don't play the game nearly as much as Total War, but it still takes first place in my favorites.
