Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
Guess it could be a good thing Firefly was cancelled. I still watch Burn Notice because it's entertaining, but it's getting a bit ridiculous.

Nah its not about who burned him anymore now they threw his girlfriend in jail, and then really did nothing with it besides an excuse to give jail survival tips everyone already knows.

Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
Because Firefly did not create an immediate, local conflict, it could be sustained for an extended period of time. While creating a local conflict like that in a TV series can lead to awesome suspense and build up, when it is the entire basis of the show, there's often a void once the local conflict is resolved. It is better to introduce local conflict once the show is established.

So, has he turned in a written confession to all his murders? Because that's the only way Dexter can get any sloppier.dragoon9105 wrote:I dont know i think

You know who the best murderer is?
No the fuck you don't, cause he didn't get caught.

Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
game of thrones is good. but I personally dont really count HBO and Showtime shows when calculating best show on TV, since shows on those networks get like 10x the budget and aren't filtred for content.
also since GoT is a bookseries it isn't really new. Breaking Bad is a pretty unique show and the story is constantly going new unexpected directions

but also with breaking bad, there are events that are obviously just in there to make the story stay interesting. Otherwise it would have been about guy who makes meth and never has any life trouble because he's a smart business man dealing with smart business men.

Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
interesting plot developments to make a story interesting are what make shows good. name ONE good show or movie whose plot doesn't involve TONS of coincidence based around the protagonist.
there aren't any because a story without coincidence is bland and boring as fuck

I didn't feel that with breaking bad it was coincidence all too often. It was like "oh....I'm just gonna go do this REALLY stupid fucking thing, because otherwise this show would be too simple."
like when he went and killed the two gangsters that killed the little kid. It just seemed entirely stupid and without reason. BUT it kept the story going.

Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
an emotional drug addict find out that a kid who was pressured into killing one of his best friends has been murdered due to actions he has taken, and the kid is also the cousin of his current girlfriend who is also a meth addict, so he tries to take revenge?
of course its stupid, jessie isn't a character that makes rational descisions. if everyone made rational choices all of the time then none of them would be making meth. there is coincidence there, in the fact that the kid is related to his girlfriend, otherwise he probably wouldn't have given 2 shits about what happened
everything that happens is plot driven, of course the characters make mistakes, and they have to deal with the consequences of those mistakes. the only thing I would say that was really unnessicarily added to the plot was at the end of season 2 when the 2 planes crashed into eachother with no real nessicary reason or effects

Having had the arguments we have had about Halo canon, i don't know how many of us are in a position to turn around and say "coincidences in the name of the plot are okay".

Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
without coincidence there is no plot.
star wars would have been really fucking boring if the droids hadn't ended up coincidentally on tatooine and then on the sandcrawler that ended up at luke's home.
coincidence for plot doesn't mean that it is contrived or even unlikley. something that is probable to happen can still happen by coincidence. it isn't the same as deus ex machina.
example. Cortona jumped to a coordinate where she knew something forerunner was due to previous research. coincidentally it was a halo that contained the flood, which drove the plot of the end of the game. it COULD have been a mining facility with a few sentinals on it, but that would have been marginally less interesting.
it sure is coincidental that of all the holes to fall in Bilbo fell in the one with gollum and the ring.
it sure is a good thing that batmans parents were the first ones to leave the theatre, story wise
man, its nice that superman didn't land in the middle of the ocean.
coincidence is what allows plot to happen. it can be perfectly logical, but it is still coincidental
coincidence drives everything in storytelling. sometimes you later find out that things were pre-ordaned from the beginning to happen that way, which makes it conspiracy instead of coincidence, but those stories usually have the coincidental figuring out of the conspiracy that later drives the plot... ext
a bad use of a coincidence would be for no reason having a person stumble across the solution to all of their problems... as that would be contrived.
I'm not sure why I am explaining it to you if you have read the Anthropic principle...

Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
Jessie's character is irrational sometimes, but Cuntywhore McBitchfuck White needs to throw herself off a cliff.
Re: In this Thread: The best show ever
With a name like that I would think the character would be smart enough to stay away.
Unless she just goes by Ms.White.

I agree
and its because she is sleeping with the main character Lp, That's the ONLY reason she is still around.
Micheal, Jessie and Ash Williams (Sam) could carry the show without her.
