Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Actually, the writers for the project are Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
Like I said before, them + Obsidian's RPG know-how will probably result in a pretty kick-ass game.

Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Yeah I know, was rather obviously.
Was alluding to the fact that there's no studio fucking it up or somebody else taking the South Park IP and trying to make a game out of it.
It just looks like Matt Stone and Trey Parker got money and said DO THIS FOR US NOW!!! and it happened.

Guys, what should I do? Pre-order this kickass looking game or just buy Far Cry 3 for like.. $40.
They said it'll have connect integration allowing to use voice control including the ability to berate Cartman.

Buy FarCry 3 now, wait until the South Park game is out and then buy it (if it lives up to expectations).

Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Yeah I bought Far Cry, as I heard good things about it. It'll arrive this coming tuesday <3 Thanks UPS man!
If I wait until it's released I can't get the bulrog chicken though I think there's a low probability of South Park: The Stick of Truth turning out bad anyway.

I don't think you can compare Colonial Marines to this project. Colonial Marines wasn't really unique, and the developers weren't really outstanding in my opinion either.

Prior to it's release Gearbox had only one blemish on it's record and that was Duke Nukem Forever, which to their credit they probably had little impact on.
Obsidian had made mistakes in the past as well. Remember Alpha Protocol? Not to mention every game they have ever released has had a ton of bugs in it.
Now by no means am I saying it will turn out like Colonial Marines did, I'm simply saying it's better to air on the side of pessimism until proven otherwise.

Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
?
Alpha Protocol is infamous for its bugs and questionable gameplay, but the story and moral choice function was rather solid from what I hear. It's developed a cult-like following apparently, and it's still selling today. I plan to pick it up whenever I can get it.
Point: Obsidian isn't the best when it comes to gameplay or having bug-free software, but they're really strong when it comes to narrative. In fact, there are a few games that they've made sequels for that surpass the originals in terms of narrative quality. I'm not talking about KotOR btw, even though KotOR II was really really good.
What I'm trying to say is, I believe the narrative experience of Stick of Truth is most likely going to be very solid. Even if the game has bugs or questionable gameplay I'm still buying it. Besides, how hard is it to fuck up 2D turn-based gameplay?
Not sure if I want to know the answer..

Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
Again, totally missed what I was saying, I freaking love some of the elements in Alpha protocol, despite the games huge flaws in terms of gameplay.
My point is it good to have some healthy cynicism to any game developer, especially in this day and age.
I expect Stick of truth to be a good game, I'm just wary of the track record of Obsidian in terms of bugs and the huge legacy of bad South Park games. I hope this time it will be different, but right now I can't confirm that, so I stay a little cynical.

Oh, I thought you were questioning the quality of Alpha Protocol as a whole. I get what you mean, absolutely. I still know that it could end badly, but I desperately hope it doesn't. I don't think it will but I still have that deep rooted fear

Re: South Park: The Stick of Truth
In their defense the games they have had bugs in were large open world environments where you could do anything and there was a shit ton of code in place.
A 2D side scroller should have SIGNIFICANTLY less if any bugs in it.
