Don't know how they compare to Soldiers, and I haven't played Faces of War, but Men of War is fun (also really difficult, get the original Men of War if you want singleplayer, Assault Squad doesn't have a campaign).
I wasn't even aware there were sequels! This pleases me.

THQ has been dissolved. SEGA now owns Relic. Hopefully they don't force any last minute changes onto the CoH 2 devs.

I am still continuously surprised that SEGA still even exists, let alone has enough money to buy new studios.
Re: Company of Heroes 2
According to their wikipedia page, they also have(had?) slot machines which make quite a bit of money. They also own Sports Interactive (Football Manager), are currently publishing the new Aliens game, there was a new Sonic recently that I think did decently. They also published all the games by Platinum games until now (Platinum's next games aren't published by SEGA, but their previous games (Madworld, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns) were)

Re: Company of Heroes 2
I just want Sonic to die honestly.
They haven't made a good game since the second one.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
I was quite fond of Adventure 2 Battle, and I imagine that Adventure and Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast were similarly good, based on that experience. Heroes looked...interesting, but not necessarily bad. But I briefly played that one on the Wii, and the transitioning from 2D to 3D was just...it didn't flow very well. Dunno about other Sonic titles, but SA2B wasn't too long ago.

Sonic Adventure 2 was released June 19th 2001. Battle was a port of that.
To be blunt, I never got the appeal of Sonic, I played Sonic 2 (Or maybe 1?) at a friends house and I remember playing one of the bonus stages.
Never really got into it. He runs fast, great now he's a bitch to control. A lot of the time I spent post then occasionally playing the odd part of a sonic game here and there (even the dreaded Sonic 06) It felt that most of the time you weren't controlling him and just pressing the odd button to do that lock on dash. Felt like a never ending QTE.
Seeing how badly it's done over the last decade I really think they should stop.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
I never liked side scrolling platformers to be honest. They all sucked to me. Mario and Sonic being the biggest.
It isn't about skill so much as trial and error and knowing the level ahead of time (more so for sonic than mario) or having the precognition of a Lord Pheonix to know when shits about to fly infront of you. Otherwise you just have to go immensely slow which is the opposite of the whole point of sonic.
Metroid and Zelda are two of my favorite game genres though because they changed it up and made it different. Also are two of the four series from nintendo that continue to get better or change the formula while the former are dead carcasses which continue to be kicked for the vain attempt of getting some more milk out of them.

Yeah, I didn't really get into platformers as a kid until they were 3D and there was a little of that, but not to the point it screwed you over. Crash Bandicoot is still my favourite platforming series.
I would agree with Metroid as Prime really kept the core of that series, yet took it to a new perspective and gameplay style. Zelda is always a Zelda game since Ocarina. They haven't changed that much since that game.
As for Sonic.

Indeed, I loved the original along with Metroid Fusion and loved the hell out of the first Prime (never finished the second but didn't feel it was as strong as the first) but they are both games that got much better with time and changes. Mario and Sonic just keep getting shit on it would seem and they either change it in a horrible way and won't just let it die (Sonic) or they refuse to change anything to the degree that it's stagnant (Mario). From what I can tell that Mario game for the Wii U looks like a lot of fun and expands on the original Mario style and adds a lot of cooler stuff in it.

Not much you can do after perfection.
Re: Company of Heroes 2
Maybe at the time yes, but games have advanced quite a lot since Ocarina was released. I remember reading an interesting article a few months back about who the original Zelda (NES one) and how Dark Souls was it's spiritual successor.
It'd be interesting to see Nintendo heading that way in the future, or maybe change the status quo, as in every Zelda game, their is Link, Zelda and Ganondorf/Ganon.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
But that is the whole point of the Zelda franchise with Link/Zelda/Ganon.
Throughout the different timelines and history The Princess Zelda and the Hero Link will be reborn and reincarnated to fight the Evil that is Ganon. A story that goes through history and each game is linked to another telling the tale.
Without Zelda and Ganon then it's just some kid in a green skirt fighting weird creatures.
A few games did change it and they were fun as well (the two that come to mind being Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask) which were great games (two of my favorites) but it's just not right if the Hero of Time doesn't fight Ganon.
People want a connecting story line and not just a bunch of remakes (i.e Mario and Sonic). Hell there was a huge demand for Shigeru Miyamoto to release the timeline (that people weren't even sure existed) because everyone WANTED a connecting story.
Even Metroid which has each game barely connecting to each other has a connected storyline. If the game doesn't have space pirates and Ridley in it everyone starts saying "where are the space pirates and Ridley?"

Re: Company of Heroes 2

Re: Company of Heroes 2
Yeah.......
That was because of bland voice acting and shitty as all hell plot holes. I heard story was still mostly okay and seemed like a Metroid story and the fights were okay.
Still not a good Metroid game though.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
Talking was fine, it's just that the voice actress talked in such a monotone and unmotivated way that the entire game was drug down because of it.
Go to 3:15 and just listen to her talk. She speaks like that the entire fucking game.
And the fact that they changed her from what was thought as a strong independent bounty hunter woman to a whiny emotional clingy father figure complexed mess of a woman that can't do anything without the father figure approval she so desperately wants just fucking killed her.
In all the different games about her she never spoke a single word and had barely any inner though except in Metroid Fusion and she STILL had a better character than what Other M did.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
You didn't play it, did you? I'm assuming you're just taking cliff notes from ZP or something, but you're implying you've both played and not played it.
You're in a quantum superposition of both having played, and not having played Metroid Other M. That must suck.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
I watched a Let's Play of the entire game.
Every time that Samus spoke it just felt like it was dragging on and on. It was so unmotivated and the flashbacks of her talking to Adam made me fucking cringe while listening. Physically cringed.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
I have watched all the cutscenes in the game, in it's own "Theatre mode" within the game itself.
It was filled with way to many on the nose references to children and motherhood, especially in the first 5 minutes.
(The Baby Metroid, Mother Brain, the bottleship, calling out a baby's call)
The actress they got was terrible, and the story makes no sense for Samus as a character, as this is set right after Super Metroid. Why is surprised by the appearance of Ridley, Metroids and other classic enemies still being around? This is not her first mission (And even in Zero mission she wasn't freaking out at the first sign of trouble.)
Edit: on topic this sega talk is relevant now that Sega now owns Relic.
Could we see a Total War: Warhammer/ company of heroes in the future?
They might be shaping up to be a significant player in the RTS genre.

Vigil's brother explains what was wrong with Other M
I don't know why he sounds so different in the second video.

Total War in the 40K universe would be damn epic, although could be extremely difficult. Company of heroes one would seem more....plausible.

Re: Company of Heroes 2
Didn't the developers say for Total war they don't want to go any further in time than Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai?. That's probably because World War 1 would never work in Total war as the battles would consist of charging a position and then getting violently gunned down.
World War 2 would just be Medieval 2 Total war except with Tanks instead of Heavy Cavalry. Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy are both certainty possible though.
Though if you want a persistent WW2 campaign i would recommend looking up Hearts of Iron 3. No close up battles but it handles WW2 strategy on a larger scale better than anything else in recent memory.
