The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
Hello everyone, I'm making this thread because I believe that we, the community of TCF, should establish our own list of games which we have played and would reccommend to others. Due to the diversity of game players on the site, many of us have experienced great games which others may not have even heard of. This thread will help reveal some of those 'hidden gems' to the rest of the community, while also serving as a rating and review board.
To organize such a list, I propose a combination of different categories based on genre and generation, the latter referring to the games age and by extension its appearance (for those who accept only the best of graphics), as well as how easy it would be to obtain a copy of it and play.
So, before putting anything together, I would like to ask the community what their thoughts are about genre and generation categories. While it is easy to seperate games into groups like Shooters and Strategy, you could further break down something like Strategy into Realtime Strategy, Real Time Tactics, Turn Based Strategy, 4X games, etc. How precise should these categories be?

Re: The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
4x Games are drastically diffrent then RTS games, Breaking them down into subtypes is most likely the best direction. Problem being a game like Portal is a FPS but is also a puzzle game, Where that would go is a little more confusing.

Agree to disagree then.
Re: The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
subcategories work best.
if a game fits in two we put them in both like this...
Puzzle:
Portal [Also Shooter]
Shooter:
Portal [Also Puzzle]
or something...
OR
we can make it like a Venn Diagram
but it'll be pretty big...

Re: The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
You could do Portal the same they did say Metroid Prime. Where it's a first person shooter but also an adventure game. They called it a, First Person Adventure. So in Portals case it could be something like, First Person Puzzle. Just a thought...
Anyways, I love the idea behind this thread so props Seath for gettin' it started.

TOUHOU PROJECT
Series of bullet curtain games with artsy bullet patterns, and is difficult. Notable for having small, player-sized bosses (rather than huge death machines), and a ridiculous amount of fan-made stuff related to it.
Also includes series of fighting games using characters from the mainline bullet curtain.

Re: The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
i kind of feel the best way is to start making lists and adapt the categories as issues arise, since no matter how we make the categories, something is going to end up not fitting into it.

Re: The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
I think that the Total War is a mix between 4X and RTT. A game with a similar bit of a problem is Master of Orion II(one of my reccomendations) which is a 4X and a TBT.
Does it seem better to create a subgroup for all mixes, new categories as needed, or to just put the games under what best defines them?

Re: The TCF Game List (Suggestion Thread)
FPS
Marathon, Dunderal, Infinity
Features the most interesting AI character ever , in my opinion, although a lot of others come close and are still awesome. Also has fun gameplay, though the text-based storytelling is somewhat difficult to follow if you don't find the terminals, and some of the maps are difficult to navigate (you get lost sometimes) first time around. I like it because of Dunderal though.
RTS
Empires: Dawn of the Modern World
Fun, with many varied ways to effectively win, not being nailed down to one or two strategies. Campaign sucks horribly, but multiplayer and skirmish are cool. Has some issues with late game unit spam and clusterfucks of thousands of units fighting and stuff, but that's mostly because we kept playing on high resources/high population settings on oversized maps.

It also has the problem of level 10 AI RAPING EVERYTHINGYOU HAVE EVER KNOWN. IT IS FUCKING TERRIFYING. Seriously though, we went like 5v1 against it, and we all lost terribly.
