My guess: He died a few times, but did the whole thing with no music so he could add game music on top to make it sound real. That's why there's so many cuts in the music.

I think the cuts were due to him moving through the levels so fast and cutting complete titles as he went. Notice on the silent cartographer he got the title scene and dialgoue of Shafted even though he activated the cartographer, and that it doubled played with the dialogue at the end of the level? That's why it may of happened, but eh, I might have been cut a bit, especially given the fact he was riding his luck to the extreme several times with all those nade jumps.

Meh. The Super Mario World 2 one is just about where knowing where all those stupid keys are. The guy that does the Half-Life one is a fucking beast.
Re: Halo CE completed in 76 Minutes.....On Legendary.
It's more then that. It's practise and skill. Both are...all are.
It's also memorization. It's knowing what to do, how to do it and where to do it all as quickly as possible. That guy in the HL one did it, so does the SMB 2 & 3. I'm not saying that's it's easy or that I could do it, because I can't. Props to the HL guy and the Halo guy and any other speed runner, I just find the Nintendo speed runs more entertaining. Probably because I spent so much on those games myself.

Re: Halo CE completed in 76 Minutes.....On Legendary.
He used glitches in a few areas to skip sections, but it wasn't a matter of knowing where a key was. A lot of it was using physics to break the game.
I'm impressed more by the Half-Life 1 speed run because, even watching it, I know that it would still take me three or four hours to beat the game on the highest difficulty setting. There's no way I could replicate half the stuff he did, even with practice. But watching the Super Mario World 2 one, I now know where the keys are, and could probably beat the game in half an hour, maybe an hour.

The other ones are still a lot more impressive to me.
You don't need to "break the game" in order to do the speed the run.
There's really more to to it then "just getting the keys".
Just like there is probably more to the HL one then "just breaking the game physics". As I'm sure you'd agree.
Nintendo wins this round of speed runs for me personally.
Now what we need to see from both parties, is restricted speed runs, such as only using certain items or doing specific things. Etc. I'm sure there already out there so post'em if you want. I might if I can find one.
Anyways, both are very VERY impressive. Let's not get that wrong here. Kudos to both. Oh! and the Halo one.

Re: Halo CE completed in 76 Minutes.....On Legendary.
Technically, the Super Mario World 2 one he does break the game in a few places to speed himself up. But a majority of the time shaved off his gameplay is from knowing where the keys were. While the Half-Life speed run also shaved off a lot of time by skipping some chapters, he also cut a lot of time just being a boss.
Re: Halo CE completed in 76 Minutes.....On Legendary.
Hmm, well, should we consider a simple glitch the same as 'breaking the game'? You could kinda go 50/50 on that.
Because I just watched one of a speed run of Mario 2 in 26 mins without using any warps. But he did use glitches to get past certain areas faster. I can see both sides on that one.
Anyways, 26 mins with no warps? Now that's boss.
