Re: WoW
Well duh. I'm more than aware of that.
I was agreeing with you originally. Not the best way of wording it though.

Baconsen wrote:I don't like the idea of paying $15 a month to play ONE game online.
Compared to xbox live, where i can pay $60 a year and play any 360 i want.
But just think about the amount of new games you buy to play online, think about the cost as well as your $60.
But with WoW, the game is so freaking long and there are so many things to do that you never need to buy a new game....

Re: WoW
15 dollars a month = 30 dollars every 2 months
which translates into 180 dollars a year
add in the price of wow and all it's expansions and you have around 240-300 dollars (depends on sales and discounts ect)
i usually only buy 2-3 games a year that means im spending only 180-240 dollars (factoring in the 60 dollars for XBL)
This is without factoring in the fact is i play these games for multiple years, Cod4 i still play, Halo Reach i'm going to be playing for years. SC1 ive been playing for like 10 years and it still hasn't gotten old.
and if i really want to play an MMO with a massively long story i think i'll play GW, paid around 30 bucks for it and its free to take online. been playing it since release casually

Re: WoW
I also like the pop in and play aspect you get with consoles, you can just sit there and go, I want to play this game now, and you can just flip discs and play right away, especially when it's a new game.
I've dabbled with PC gaming more than once and to be honest it has yet to enthrall me.

I make 15 bucks an hour... I don't mind 1 hour of 1 day of work being used to fund a month of playing a game

witch also translates into 3 months of XBL or an Infinite amount of online playtime with PSN or a Steam game.

Plus it's only 15 for the same one game, while with other games, you continually pay $60 for new games. Plus the payment of XBL seems to outweight the $60+$15 monthly fee.

Re: WoW
I still play Xbox games, but, for a game that I can sit down and play for an hour between programming and doing art... i'd rather play WoW than Halo... since one actually feels like im accomplishing something
I can afford it, if you are a lazy bum with no job then obviously its gonna be too expensive to play

I was just pointing it out, as a lot of people are bring in the cost equation. Anyway, I can play any game hours on end as long as I have friends with me.

Re: WoW
Hmm.. I think Dragoon already did this but...
Prices are based on average retail prices, brand new, rounded to the nearest dollar, no sales tax.
WoW - $20
Wow Expansions - $30 + $20 + $40 = $90
One Year of WoW ($15/month) - $180
In Total - $290 With Expansions / $200 Without
One Year of Xbox Live - $60
Three Xbox 360 Games a Year (brand new) - $180
In Total - $240
To sum this up, you pay $40 bucks more for Xbox Live if you only pay the bare minimum for World of Warcraft (Which most people don't.), but you also get an additional two games to play. So, you can pay $200 to play one game, or pay $240 and play three.
$60 a year / 12 months a year = $5 a month.
So you can pay a month's worth of Xbox Live with a third of the amount of time of work that you are using to pay for World of Warcraft, PLUS have the ability to play a multitude of games instead of just one.
Now this is just my view on the game on an economic standpoint.
For the game itself, I know its a good game, but does that mean I have to like it? No. I never was able to get "addicted" to the game like some of my friends were, I just found myself getting bored after 30 minutes or so, compared to ME, ME2, KOTOR, and KOTOR2 which I clocked over 100 hours on each and I am still playing them.
So I don't like WoW. You can play it all you want, be my guest, but you won't see me playing it.
EDIT: I forgot to mention one other thing. With World of Warcraft, you have to pay the monthly fee, or you will not be able to play. Compared to Xbox 360 where you can just pocket the $60 and just play offline.

Re: WoW
Why would you want to play the same game over and over again though.
at a certain point "its a good game" excuse becomes just that
an excuse to cover up an addiction.
WoW's story looks like swiss cheese so that definatly isn't what is keeping millions of players, is the Time+Grinding=progressively better reward system that rewards you for maxing out your characters, spending rediculous amounts of time on the game, and grinding for loot drops.
and also, Morrowind and its expansions have mroe content then wow can ever hope to, plus a construction set witch lets you create your own content IF you run out of stuff to do.
But hell, like bacon said, if thats your idea of fun i can't stop you so go nuts
