It's just a sign of desperation in a series when they have to completely change the setting. I'm surprise they didn't just set it IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE( Which would be ironic, giving that Bioshock is a spiritual successor to System shock).
Seriously, how does a giant aerial series make any sense, and how on earth does it link to Rapture?

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
I don't know how it links to Rapture. You did see the Big daddy looking statue that the mech thing crushed under his boot. And the dark haired girl was using what looked to be some form of adam/plasmids. Now I know Adam came from the slugs in the sea so I have no idea how they wuld have it. Maybe it's something else. IDK.
It does have Irrational on board so I expect some good stuff from them. And I don't think it's really a desperation. A change in setting was need I think. I mean would you rather it be another under water setting? I think they can do some good with a sky setting. To me that is.
We have a long ways for it to reveal anything about the Story. 2012. The only I hope is that there's no multiplayer and they focus on story. That's just me.

A city in the air is very unpractical. Not to mention you would need massives amounts of fuel and hydrogen to stay up.
I also heard it was set in.....1912. :/
I'll give it a try though, so I can decide fully.

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
After the massive disapointment of Bioshock 2, my expectation for this are at an whole time low.
It will take a lot to turn that around, and they have 2 years to do it.
Good luck.

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
I'm not one that looks for realism like that in a video game. It is a video game after all. So it being in the sky doesn't really bother me at all. A little fantasy never hurt.

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
I don't mind, so long as they give me an decent explanation, and it fits with what we have seen previously.
Going from a massive underwater city to a massive aerial city is a pretty big leap, so they'd need a damn good explaination to this new setting.

Seeing as how it's got Irrational behind it, who did a lot for the first game, I bet something pretty good is in the works for that.

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
Rapture had really good scientists working with them. They had technology far more advanced than anyone else during their time period. Not to mention that they were not in any way ristricted when it came to science.
Frankly, I think it's a very interesting thing to do. I for one, am interested as to how they attempt to implement Bioshock's "Horror" theme, in the sky.

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
Scientist that went with Ryan created an underwater city and those with America created a far superior city that was in the air (superior because its American)
And that first guy there, found his weakness two years before the game comes out.

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
Any way...
Bioshock had ADAM as one of it's main themes. However, that was harvested from sea slugs. How will they get ADAM in this new city? Will there even be adam? If Big Daddies are present, then that means that they're there to protect little sisters. Meaning there HAS to be ADAM. Or maybe they're the new law enforcement

Re: Bioshock: Infinite
BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.
Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.
A few lines of the synopsis from their site Whatisicarus.com.
