Of course, Frankie has been known to lie, but we are expected to be merciful to those that lie to us...
Besides which, I'm actually excited for the Forerunner trilogy.

I never really cared about Forerunners as a race/characters; I just thought their stuff was a cool setting

Alright (for the Nylund and the Onyx sequel)!
I'd really like to see another Nylund story.
The books he didn't write for Halo generally suck (except Protocol).

You're kidding, right? That book was worse than Contact Harvest! CH was at least bearable on the second readthrough, when you learned to skip Johnson's parts...
Oh, wait, you said 'Generally suck'. So, you mean the Cole Protocol sucked specifically?
Anyhow, since Nylund's short story was the best of Halo: Evolutions, I definitely hope he writes the sequel.

Re: Some shall be glad to hear this...
The forerunner trilogy doesn't much excite me as it bears little relation to the current Halo story.
Right now, the forerunners are a mysterious, archaic, ingenious super-species that perished long ago in a tragic war, but who's story continues to be unfolded piece by piece when clues from the current time frame are linked together. That's what make the forerunners so cool! With their own series... it may as well be a whole new story.
It'll have the name Halo, but will ultimately have as much to do with the UNSC/Insurrection/Covenant/Flood/Sparky struggle as Portal has to do with Half Life.
The idea of a sequel to Ghosts of Onyx, though.... now that is exciting news! I always thought it would be explained in a game -perhaps Reach? I guess not, though. If it's half as good as the first Onyx, I'll croak half-way through the book out of pure joy.

Exactly, and a story about them isn't going to maintain this facade of mystery and fascination.

I liked CH. Johnson's parts weren't all that horribe, but I'll agree with the Cole Protocol. That was bad.
I thought Nylund's was the second best. I personally like The Mona Lisa, then Nylund's, and then Dirt.

Why does everyone hate the Cole Protocol so much?
(No spoilers, I just found it again, and I'm still reading it)

Re: Some shall be glad to hear this...
part of what makes halo cool IMO is not knowing the backstory to the forerunners.... taking away that mystery takes away the entire feeling of the setting that works so well in the games

And a completely interchangeable main character and secondary character. Diego, Delgado, could someone please tell me what the difference was?BBJynne wrote:Japanese Samurai ElitesPiEdude wrote:Why does everyone hate the Cole Protocol so much?

And Spartans who can completely blend into a crowd.
And a completely wrong focus of the story. The Jackals attacked a human in the first chapter. Were we supposed to believe that the humans honestly believed the Jackals were up to no good?
And yeah, Samurai Elites.

The concept was an interesting one, especially the idea of groups within the Covenant working without the other groups knowing.
Also way too much Keyes. YES CAPTAIN KEYES IS AWESOME. I GET IT.

I disagree vigil... Keyes is awesome... but what they are portraying him as now is to the point of making the character unrealistic... the same way as they did to Johnson... IMO this takes the characters from awesome to "overplayed"

Re: Some shall be glad to hear this...
I am about 3/4 of the way through Contact Harvest and thus far I like it. Is it amazing or even as good as Nylunds? No, of course not. But I definitely don't think it's as bad as you guys seem to think. Hell I even enjoyed The Flood and that was mostly a re-telling story.
I have not read Cole Protocol yet but I get the feeling that again I probably won't hate it as much as you guys.
Anyways, what I wanted to say about the Forerunner Trilogy was that I agree with KrAzY. What makes Halo and the Forerunners in general cool and awesome is that mystery behind them. This of course is true. But, seeing as how this trilogy is going to happen either way, I also believe that they can still have this trilogy and still have some mystery behind them. Some things can be explained or revealed for the sake of the story and what-not but keeping that mystery in tact I think can still be gained.
Don't ask me how to do it, I would'nt know.

Really? I feel the opposite. I generally need (or want I should say) everything about a story, so diving more into the back story of the forerunners would very much please me so.

100% agree, not everything needs an explanation. The whole thing about the Forerunners was their transcendence, they built planets and yet, no one knows anything about them... what else is there to know? Any other information would just make them seem more vulnerable/human.
