Use a low powered BB gun. As long as you can aim, it shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Dear god, they're in the ceiling...
its easier to catch it, then I dont have to try and get into the attic with a BB gun and kill it(it will take more than one BB to kill a racoon, a low powered BB gun may not even be powerfull enough to kill one) and then dispose of it somewhere.

Then I suggest you take BBJynne's last advice and challenge it to a duel.

I know there's an actual thing called a bbgun, but a weapon that shoots myself at things would be pretty bitchin'

since when?
in every state in the union, firing a gun in your own house is perfectly legal. may prompt someone calling the cops, but its legal nonetheless.

Unless you LIKE your hamburger to be bloody and unevenly cooked.

Re: Dear god, they're in the ceiling...
They should not be attached to the trap itself. The bleeding out should be done after said fox/raccoon is dead and hung up. Between the time the creature falls victim to the trap and the moment that you find it dead, who knows what will have gotten into it's open wounds. We wouldn't want swine flu ruining that tasty burger now would we?
