Re: That one thread
Finally found the damned things. They were behind some stuff on a shelf in my closet (they claimed to have put everything in a trio of boxes, which I had thoroughly searched, to which they said that I must have lost the manuals).

1. History of the Great Lakes Region
a. Collapse of the United States
In 2037 the United States dissolved. It is believed that the seeds of this break
were planted several decades earlier during economic and war time turmoil, where
two distinct and popular belief sets began to conflict. During the following
decade the State governments would band together to form new nations and some made
war. Most inter-regional termoil was ended when the Undead Uprising began in 2041.
b. Formation of the Great Lakes Commission
As the Undead Uprising was in full swing in Europe and the former Southern United
States, the nothern states came together to form a defensive and economic
contract. Initially this only included former US states, but after Canada
dissolved amid the negotiations the contract came to include all former members of
the Great Lakes Commission established by the Canadian and United States
Governments many years ago.
The Commission now acts as a central governing body, and much like a confederacy.
The otherwise seperate states and territories, which all have their own
governments, are bound together under it much like the states were under the US
Federal Government.
The Commission drafted a weak-type constitution which would regulate the states
and territories under it. It is still in effect to this day.
c. Members of the Great Lakes Region
The members of the Great Lakes Commission are as follows. The list includes the
State or Territory and what pre-collapse nation it belonged to.
(Northern)Indiana - United States
(North-Eastern)Illinois - United States
Michigan - United States
(Eastern)Minnesota - United States
(Western)New York - United States
(Northern)Ohio - United States
(Southern)Ontario - Canada
(Western)Pennsylvania - United States
(Southern)Quebec - Canada
(Eastern)Wisconsin - United States
d. Current Situation
Despite a large population base, Agriculture and Manufacturing base, the Great
Lakes Region as well as much of the world has been devestated by past events. The
wars, the Undead Uprising and Dimension Type-A attacks and invasions left many
places severely weakened. The Great Lakes Region is currently under invasion and
siege from many of the forces mentioned above. The appearance of the Dimension
Type-B species has only worsened the situation. The situation has grown so severe
within the Eastern Hemisphere that contact has been lost.
The Great Lakes Commission has recently declared a state of war in order raise the
necessary funds, manpower and machines to effectively defend itself and drive
outside influences from its borders.
2. Manufacturing, Agriculture and Commerce of the Great Lakes Region
a. Manufacturing Base
The Great Lakes Region has an extremely strong manufacturing base. Throughout
Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan, many dozens of factories churn out both
military and civilian products. The board's responsible for regulating the
industries as well as wartime production are headquartered in Detroit Michigan,
which holds many factories and is well within Great Lakes Commission boundaries.
It is safe to say that the Great Lakes Region has the most powerfull manufacturing
base within the America's, and possibly the world.
b. Agriculture in the Great Lakes Region
Agriculture exists within the Great Lakes region to a suprising extent. The Great
Lakes regulate the temperature of the surrounding area, allowing the large scale
growth of food, both in quantity and type. In the western and southern reaches of
the Region, Corn, cereals and grains are common. Within the central part of the
region, fruits and grains are common, as well as root plants like sugar beets or
potatoes. In the northern areas, root plants are grown in larger amounts than
anywhere else.
c. Commerce and Trade
Trade is high within the region. Each region tends to produce their own cash crops
and cash goods. The Trade and Commerce Commission is located in Chicago,
Illinois(as well as the GLC Headquarters).
External trade with other regions is often slow, however, when it does occur it
normally includes mass bulk of goods being exchanged.
d. Natural Resources
There are large quantities of natural resources located throughout the region. In
the North and East, minerals are mined. Michigan holds a strong timber industry.
Water is almost always available, something that is sometimes a rarity elsewhere.
Most goods manufactured within the region are made out of the regions own natural
resources, making the Great Lakes Region self sufficient.
e. Logistics and Transportation Lines
Early in the 21st century, rail lines became prominent. The remnants of the once
sprawling network once again came to life and expanded. The current transportation
system, based on the rail lines, is massive. It connects every major city to one
another and often runs throughout and underneath them to allow quick and efficient
transportation within them.
The only problem with the rail lines is that some run through areas outside of
Inhibition Fields. Such unstable areas are prone to attack, and paranormal
activity. There are cases where entire regiments have been called in to defend the
narrow strips of land that the tracks run through, and many other cases where an
anomaly destroyed the rail line. In some rare cases, small portions of areas that
rail lines ran through have simply ceased to exist.
3. Major Departments of the Great Lakes Commission
a. Department of Defense
The Department of Defense is the largest department within the GLC. It is
responsible for all aspects of the military, from production to the battlefield.
It is made up of millions of members and forms the core of the GLR defense.
b. Department of Research
The Department of Research is responsible for developing new ideas and solving
problems. It incorporates many sub-departments, such as the Department of Science
and the Department of Engineering. The Department essentially solves problems,
designs new things and develops new technologies.
c. Department of Peace
The Department of Peace includes civilian police forces. They root out anyone who
is attempting to harm the GLR and keep the peace within its boundaries.
d. Department of the State
The Department of the State handles the political hurdles of Inter-State relations
as well as those with other governments.
4. Great Lakes Region Defense Force
a. Military Forces
The Great Lakes Defense Force(GLDF) is made up of both volunteers and conscripts.
They incorporate technology both old and new in their equipment and vehicles. It
is not uncommon to see 100 year old designs in the hands of the several-million
strong force.
It is impossible to include all forces of the GLDF within this brief guide,
however they will be outlined.
b. Base and Outpost Locations
There are multiple GLDF bases and outposts located within the GLR. Each city has
its own base which houses the city defense force. City garrisons are normally
proportionate to the size and importance of their respective city. Small towns
will have guard forces of maybe a few hundred at best, where as cities of millions
will have hundreds of thousands in the defense.
Each base of outpost is normally a walled and heavily fortified compound, often
consisting of thick concrete walls, reinforced by thick steel panels. Automated
defense turrets are common. Each base or outpost is capable of housing the local
garrison and supplying them for months on end. Each on comes equipped with a
generator and weak-field Inhibitor to keep them protected even if the city
inhibitor fails. A Base or outpost is effectively a fortress in its own right. The
only thing differentiating the two is that while bases are inside Inhibitor zones
and cities, outposts are in restricted zones, far from the inhibitors which
stabilize their surrounding areas.
c. Restricted Zones
Restricted Zones are those that the military has deemed off limits to the public.
These areas normally lie outside of Inhibition fields, and thus are prone to
anomalies and Dimensional gateways. Some parts of these zones barely resemble
earth, others have fell into the crushing blackness of gravity wells. Whatever is
out there, it is dangerous. Military outposts are the only signs of Human activity
in these inhospitible areas.
d. Inhibitors and Guard Forces
Throughout the GLR and much of the world, safety is reliant on stability.
Stability is reliant on Inhibitors. Inhibitors are massive machines which prevent
the Strange Force(read about in the Non-Human section) from acting. They often
draw as much power as the entire city they protect and come equipped with their
own fusion reactor to power them.
They are vital to every city, base and outpost within the GLR. Without them,
anomalies would rip apart civilization, and what remained would fall to invasion
from within.
Inhibitors are located within extremely well fortified and well defended bunkers.
The elite of a city's garrison are normally assigned to defend them, as their loss
would mean the loss of a city.
e. Irregular Fighting Units and Militia's
In the event that a city is under attack or emergency forces are needed, Prisoners
and Convicts will be sent into the field as Penal Brigades, or Irregulars. The
vast majority of Irregulars often come from volunteers however. For those
sentenced to life or death, the promise of freedom at the end of service is far to
great to turn down.
Should extra forces be needed, Militia's may be raised or called into action.
Descending from the 2nd Ammendment of the US Constitution which protected gun
rights and militia's, the GLC allows militia's to be formed and operate with
government registration.
5. Weaponry, Equipment and Vehicles
a. Food and Water
For your own survival, it is suggested that you carry both enough food and water
to last you several days whenever leaving a city. Outside of their walls, neither
are easily acquired.
b. Firearms
There are many firearms employed by the GLDF and allowed by the GLC. They range
from low caliber rifles, to high caliber handguns, to the many different region
specific firearms. The Michigan-Pattern Shotgun is one example of a region
specific firearm.
c. Equipment
Equipment, like weaponry, varies based on region. Although most is generic
througout the GLR, it is normally fine tuned to perform better under the
conditions of those who have it. People further south, for example, do not have to
worry about the harsh winter conditions of those in the far north, and their
equipment will reflect this.

GLDF
Militia -
Militia are either soldiers called to arms in dire circumstances or citizens who join in on an engagement. They generally lack armor and have light weaponry, even using axes and clubs if they have to.
Militia cannot be raised, but will automatically become available should a GLR Settlement comes under attack as the citizens work to defend it.
Type A
Race = Human
Armor = 0
Ranged Attack = 4X1-2/4/AP1
Melee Attack = 2X1/2/AP0

City Defense -
Members of the City Defense are volunteers tasked with either part or full time defense and peacekeeping duty's within their settlement. They are equipped with basic armor and weaponry and have some training, but they are still little more than over glorified Militia
Although they are normally station in one specific location, they can be called into action abroad.
