Halo Wars DLC/Update Empty Halo Wars DLC/Update

Post by CivBase Sat Mar 21, 2009 5:50 pm

Well, a lot of threads are appearing on HWF about what should be put in an update for Halo Wars or made as DLC, so I have been compiling a list of my ideas and am actually going to start looking at other ideas.

I know many of you do not like Halo Wars... but I don't like GTA, Resident Evil, or Empire: Total War so deal with it. Feel free to comment or add your own ideas, but do not just criticize the game.

Additional Gametypes
Regicide – Just like in Age of Empires II, but using the Halo Wars leaders. In Regicide you must protect your leader unit; if he/she dies, you loose. Captain Cutter could be made into a unit and given the ability to call down three fully upgraded ODST squads (that cost 250 each and must land near him) and Anders could be given a magnum and retain her ability to repair vehicles.

King of the Hill – Also like Ensemble Studios did in Age of Empires II where a Forerunner structure in the middle of the map must be captured and held for so long, or maybe just a space must have at least X amount of units in it for so long.

Art of Defense - You must survive either Flood hordes or Covenant attack waves.

Capture the Flag – You must pick up the flag from behind the enemy base with a Warthog or Ghost. Turrets would be buildable around the flag, and units carrying the flag would have reduced speed... OR each team could start with an elephant and the Elephant must get the flag (reactor) and bring it back without dying.

Land Grab – The first team to control all forerunner structures wins.

Meat Grinder – Like the gametype form Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, where you only get the most basic of units (Marines, Warthog, Scorpion, and Hornet).

Old School – You cannot use Covenant leaders or UNSC powers.

Megawealth – Also from Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, where the only way to get supplies is by securing Tech buildings (Forerunner supply pads) all around the map.

Free For All – Everyone is for his/herself.

Hardcore – You only get one base and no tech buildings.

Tactical Assault - Nobody gets a base, but instead gets a decent sized army that is some-what randomized to increase use of strategy and to decrease the repetition of similar tactics. Maps for this gametype would consist of many scenery items that could be used as cover, and possibly a tech field armory or temple with some new, simple upgrades. UNSC leader powers would be restricted to only the Heal and Repair power.

Construction/Upgrade
The Scarab build rate should be increased... probably by around 25%. The time it takes to build one of those things is murder on a deathmatch game.

Grunts should build faster by about 25-50%.

The Warthog upgrades should be cheaper in order to increase its usage.

The ODST upgrade should be researched at the armory, not the barracks, as the other marine upgrades that you must purchase before it have nothing to do with ODSTs.

The ability to give 200 supplies to allies should be set closer to 250 supplies.

Leaders should be much more expensive; 750-1000 supplies if at all possible.

The strength for turrets under construction should be increased by 100%.

Attack Modifiers
The Spartan's main attack should be slightly stronger, but the ability to hijack air vehicles should be removed in exchange.

The Prophet of Regret should be allowed to fire his main guns while using his Cleansing Beam ability.

The shotgun range for ODSTs and Sergeant Forge should be decreased by about 50%. It's not that long of a walk.

Plasma grenades should explode much sooner after landing on their targets.

The strength of the Banshee’s main attack should be increased by about 25-50%.

Hunters should be stronger against infantry in close combat and should be able to hit air craft. To compensate, their cost should be brought up to 300-350 supplies.

Miscellaneous
The Spartan’s shield should be removed (even if this is supposedly not an actual shield, it is misleading) and replaced with a slightly large health bar that slowly regenerates when the Spartan is not being attacked.

The Heal and Repair ability should cost 250 supplies instead of 350.

The MAC, Carpet Bomb, and Cryo Bomb regeneration speeds should be increased by about 25%.

Resource crates should include about 50% more supplies and be picked up in around half the time for scout units.

The deploy/undeploy times for the Cobra and the Elephant should be reduced by about 50%.

A map editor should definitely be released before 2010 with few restrictions (meaning a complex trigger and scripting system).

Add a gametype editor that allows you to toggle on/off leader powers (including leader unit's special ability and the UNSC economy bonus), leader units, uber units (UNSC super units and scarab), second bases, double supply rate, double pop-cap, small starting armies, and skulls at the beginning.

Things That Aren’t Going To Happen
The Cyclops should be replaced with a squad of Engineer marines.

The Huragok should be replaced with a Drone squad.

A controllable APC unit should be added to the UNSC (Cougar).

All very good ideas Civ, I agree with most of them, if not all.

I don't like all of the game modes you proposed though, I like KotH and a few others from AoE, but not the C&C ones..

RU5H NE3Ds F1X!!!
Just to shut up all the n00bs. But if this is a shit idea don't blame me, I haven't played the game, I only know things from what people say about it.

Oh my god! could you please stop saying that? Every time you've said that, I've recommended you give GTA IV a chance, and you continue to say it without having played it.

And you played a demo of Empire total war which only went over one aspect of the game, and ignored the main game structure.

Also, halowars SUCKS!

When you first play Total War games they tend to aggrevate you a lot and you hate them. Eventually you realize that it is actually a very good game, and you just aren't used to it.

They should add a tacticle battle game-mode for DLC. No bases, just a preset amount of units. Armies can be randomised slightly as well. Maps should feature alot of tactical positions like high-ground, cover areas, etc.

I suggested this on HWF a while ago but the idiots over there are so stuck up on standard rushing that their tiny brains couldn't comprehend the fact many people find rushing boring. Besides, it's not like an additional game-mode would make any difference for them.

Pelicans do not replace APC's/IFV's, they more or less fill the 2500's role that the Blackhawk currently fills.

APC are easier to field in large numbers, you dont need to train pilots, they are likely cheaper and easier to build and are not suceptible to Anti-Air fire like the pelican is.

That combined with their ability to transport troops AND support them throughout the duration of a mission is something that the pelican cannot fill.

Umm... you've told me to try GTA once... and I don't like the battle part of Empire: Total War, which, even if the board game is awesome, would still be a key part of the game.

BTW, I edited the first post and added the Tactical Assault gametype and the suggestion of resurrecting the Cougar in the Things That Aren't Going To Happen section.

GTA IV is crap...

the only good part about it is free mode, and even then it's still crap.

but, on to the topic at hand. Seems like some good ideas, but what about a game mode where you have no bases, and only a certain amount of units? No powers or leaders. The first one to lose all their units loses.
