Which One Is Worth It?
Zune HD or iPod Touch?
I'm researching the two, for I'm shopping for a new MP3 Player.
I have a budget of around $250 and i want 16gb of memory.
Before i make my choice i want your opinions, cause i don't trust the comments they make on the online places...
So, which one should i get?

I don't have either. But my bro has an Ipod Touch. Good for long journeys in the car or airplane. Other than that, nothing important.

Re: Zune HD or iPod Touch?
Before I go on about telling you which one I think it better, let me preface by saying that I am an absolute, rabid, anti-apple fanboy. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm in love with Microsoft. In fact, there are many aspects of Microsoft (their Games division) which I'm pretty upset with.... but I do hate apple.
Now, for starters, I think the Ipod touch is a really great product. As much as I refuse to buy one, I must admit that it is incredibly innovative, and extremely well designed. The app store is a brilliant idea, and it is working out really really well.
Now, instead of listing what the Ipod touch has, as I'm sure you already know about, I'll just say what the Zune HD does that the Ipod Touch doesn't... and maybe some areas where it falls behind.
First of all, the zune HD has a beautiful interface. By that, I'm talking in a purely aesthetic aspect. The Zune HD interface looks great. I would say that, from a usability standpoint, the touch and the HD are the same.
Also, aesthetically, I think the Zune has a much nicer product design. The touch is very rounded and plain looking, while the HD is rigid and edgy looking.
The Ipod Touch actually has a slightly larger screen, but the Zune HD has an OLED screen... which is the best and newest HD screen technology available to consumers... and it's purrty.
When it comes to music stores/programs, the Zune software interface is REALLY REALLY great. While Itunes is sorta fugly looking, the Zune PC software looks really nice, and I often keep it up on my 15" second monitor while I'm on the computer.
It has these nice auto-generated screen saver things where it makes a nice looking slide show sort of thing out of pictures of the artist you're listening to. This may sound really gimmicky, but it does look nice, and it's nice to have on while you do other stuff. This feature is also on the Zune HD.
That said, Itunes is a much more comprehensive music store. Zune Marketplace has a lot of stuff, but Itunes has just about everything you can think of, from generic pop music, to obscure Russian bands. But you know... nobody buys music these days anyway.
The Zune HD also has an Nvidia Tegra video processor, which means higher battery life, and HD playback (when you connect it to a television set.)
The only thing the touch really has above the ZuneHD is apps. The Zune has apps as well, but they haven't really taken off yet, and the quantity and quality of the games and applications on the Ipod touch will likely never transfer over to the Zune HD to much of an extent.
So basically, it comes down to this. If you're looking for a straight up, really well designed Portable Media Player, the Zune HD is the way to go. If you're really interested in the games, or you only have a mac, go with the Ipod Touch.... which is also a really great PMP.

It's not rigid looking. It's sleek not rigid.

Re: Zune HD or iPod Touch?
Does the Zune get Wi-Fi? That'd be the selling point for me.
If you're looking for something cheap, yet effective, and intend to stick with using it as a music player (with maybe a few music videos), I suggest the Sansa e280. It's well under $100 and comes with 8 GB of memory, plus a micro SD slot for extra memory. It plays video, voice recording, radio (plus radio recording), and resembles the pre-touch iPods in many ways. Not extremely high quality, but it's a good deal for the money.

If you don't care about wifi, I would probably go with this. (the memory can be expanded with sd cards, and it will even play songs if they're in the FLAC format)

Re: Zune HD or iPod Touch?
I enjoyed mine while I had one (lost it )
I don't know much about the zune, but I and most of my friends have an ipod touch and we enjoy them.
But the thing I dislike is how fast it eats through it's battery life. One video and you lost like a third of the battery. Other than that, iPod touch is just a good all-around "system".

Re: Zune HD or iPod Touch?
Not sure if I mentioned this, but the Zune HD has a better battery life due to more efficient power management with the tegra chip.

Ah yes, the Tegra. May the Zune fight with the strength of 10 iPod touches.ReconToaster wrote:Not sure if I mentioned this, but the Zune HD has a better battery life due to more efficient power management with the tegra chip.
