Post by Divine Virus Fri Jul 31, 2009 11:39 pm

So I just found out that there's gonna be a new Alien movie. A prequel to the orginal. I'm all for it. I say WooHoo

And Ridley Scott is to direct it.

It does but I wonder what the hell the story will be like. Maybe Colonial marines encounter them on a colony they were stationed at?

I liked Aliens, not so much Alien though. Aliens 3 (or whatever, why can't you just use numbers?) I didn't think was that great.

Go look at his track record.

Ridley Scot hasn't made that many bad films

And this is from the guy who did Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and American Gangster.

I think it really depends on the writer more than anything.

Alien was the best one

no run and gunning "hey time to kill alienz guyz" kinda shit.... there was one alien, they had no guns, and the company deemed them expendable over the capture of the alien.

Aliens is one of the best movie sequels in the history of movie sequels.

Both films have their quotes and famous scenes.

THE RIDLEY SCOTT!
The MAN who directed Black Hawk Down! And Blade Runner! And The Andromeda Strain!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!

And yeah, the Alien sequel almost beat the original. What really irks me is now you go back and you think "UGH!" The sound is crappy, and the Alien is CLEARLY a man in a suit.

I hate to say it, but Alien and Aliens is one of the movies most in need of a little digital reimaging.

Sometimes a man in a suit is better than a cgi effect. As you know you know something is there, not a bit of greenscreen.

But sometimes that man in the suit terribly detracts from the rest of the movie, especially when it has been surpassed by it's sequels. Oh, sure, Aliens^3 was a bad sequel (It had its good points) and Aliens Resurrection was ALMOST complete crap*, but the way the NORMAL aliens (Drone/Runner/Chestburster) moved made them seem like monsters, not people in suits.

*The Humalien puppet had a pronounced pubic mound with male/female genetalia. The director blamed it on the guy who made the puppet and did the concepts, claiming "That [crap] was weird, even for a Frenchman". Luckily, it was digitally edited out. Saving grace, just like the Terminators not riding the Moto-terminators in T4:S

Maybe, you will sometimes not get the desired effect with a physical prop, but it much more visceral and fells more authentic.

I have no problem with CGI, but I think a man in a suit would work better, or at least a mixture of the two, with CGI used to create it's movements and a hand puppet for the close up scenes.

CGI has made movies lazy.... 90% of the time the CGI is not integrated well

the best forms of CGI intgeration i've ever seen are from a movie thats like 25 years old..

can you guess what it is?
