U and Your Internet
Well I'm soon about to move to a new residence. Against my will i have to switch ISP's due to Broadband area limitations. My current ISP , is a local subsidiary and has been great. I pay about 40 bucks for 9 megabit internet.
Now i'm going to have to switch to comca$t and join their corporate monopoly agendas. I look across the pond at Europe and they get about double the speed but only half the cost. So i was wondering what kind of connection you have, how much do you pay, and what experiences have you had with your ISP?
get the hell outta here randies

Is a high ping good or low?

Re: U and Your Internet
To my understanding you have to think of internet like a straw. How long the straw is ping. How wide the straw is Download. Ping is just the distance from your home to your isp. The lower the better. Downloads are high due to multi-user broadband networks and High bandwidth applications. For example netflix HD streaming requires 5 megabits and thats just one computer.RX wrote:Is a high ping good or low?

Re: U and Your Internet
I'm kind of curious now, because my results are pretty far behind the average for my ISP.
I'm a bit worried that it might be the Net Gear home internet system I'm using. Without explaining it in detail, there are things that I plug into the wall from which I run an Ethernet cable to my PC. I know there are "high speed" ones available, and that's not what I have.

Re: U and Your Internet
Mine's ok, but bell sucks and decided to make the modem they give you a modem/router combo, with no way to disable the wireless built into it, and after having Rogers high speed internet for so long, Bell really dissapoints me since they are about half the speed that I had with Rogers.
EDIT: This is way better than the ISP average, too.

For sure. Prototype would download for me so much faster if only I had a good connection.

Re: U and Your Internet
It is if you're allowed to get it (otherwise I would have towait until a day when I'm home alone for most of the day, then I would have to take the bus to the mall (about an hour), followed by about a 15 minute walk to where I could buy the game (I'm only 15, so the EB games in the mall won't let me buy it due to some law or other, but Futureshop will). After that, I have to return to the mall, wait for the correct bus, take it to a certain stop, then take another bus to another stop, followed by about a 10 minute walk to get home. That will take around a day, and I don't have that much time these days. Also, this way I get it for free and can buy a different game with my money (I'm sure prototype deserves it, but my parents won't let me get it, and I really want to play the game).Cheese wrote:Elabajaba wrote:ReconToaster wrote:Tnine wrote:What could you possibly need internet that fast for?
