Hmm... while I certianly think nukes are awesome in the hands of the U.S. I'm disinclined to think they're quite so amazing if they're in Russian hands.

However, nukes did save a whole lot of American lives back in WWII, so I'm gonna go with they're awesome.

Nuclear weapons saved more lives than any other weapon in existence. If MAD wasn't around, we would have gone to war with Russia long ago.

Now that they have been invented, and everyone and his dog's mother knows how they work, nuclear deterrence is vital to national security, so nukes are here to stay.

But I must admit, nothing quite gets me going like nuclear fire. Remember that one scene in Terminator 2: Judgment Day? I get that movie out every once in a while and watch it, mostly for that one scene.

nukes are a part of todays society

having them around creates peace due to MAD (as per rasq)

we can't just get rid of them... that would be like abolishing guns from earth... whoever didn't listen would suddenly have an upper hand on everyone on the planet....

Right now, they spell disaster for the world and could easily be the end of it. However... if they could do something like the missile shield in Endwar or find some way to negate their damage, they would be nothing more than a big bomb. Much less useful that way.

We'll need nukes when we fight the aliens.

Until then, we have no use for them. In a world of conflict, they pose as nothing more than an imminent threat to us all.

What happens when all have acquired nukes? We'd like to stop it, but unless there's some sort of UN agreement to stop making Nukes and keep others from ever doing so, it's only a matter of time.

What purpose then will nuclear weapons posses? Mutually assured destruction keeps the sane at peace, but does little to hinder the religious zealots.

No, nuclear weapons are ultimately a bad thing.

put them to use, and strap them to some space ships.

I wouldn't call the Chinese "Zealots."

The Soviet Union was a far less reasonable world power, and not a single bomb was dropped. Those in power of nations will not be eager to lose the lands over which they govern.

On the other hand, someone willing to blow themselves up to appease "Allah" and head off to cloud city with a company of virgins will likely be less possesive.

Actually, the idea is to use methods od nuclear propulsion to enable fast space travel throughout the solar system, but I suppose we could do a bit of "Search and Destroy" work while we're at it.

That's because the idiocy that exists in Australia radiates outward to all of Oceania. Australia strongly opposes nuclear power, and bans/censors games from their entire country. god I hate Australia.

If the full TSAR Bomba was dropped on Seattle, you could say goodbye to a third of America. Screw the weapons.

Not really. Not unless it's specially designed, like in an H-bomb.

Detonating a nuke near another one will probably just blow the other one up without it reaching critical mass.

I don't think We copied the Aussies, most people over here hate Aussies (Don't ask why)
And our government is like hippie!
Our Government doesn't fall into peer pressure and conform, it says NO to America and their nuclear stuffs. (Lolz, Copyright)
I personal dislike Nuclear weapons, but I have nothing against nuclear Power which our government hates.
"But, do you not remember what happened in Chernobyl" *Shout a random Karl* Yea, well that was a long time ago, and back then it was all run by man, now we have computer that can do everything for us, so you don't need to worry about that.

But the sweat thing about NZ is there is no chance of another 911. Except next time it could be even worse.

Even an H-bomb would not likely set off other nukes. Remember that ALL Nukes are set off by colliding two chunks of unstable material VERY PRECISELY!

Even an H-Bomb requires a fission reaction to generate the required heat.

Hitting another nuclear Warhead witht eh explosion of another nuke would not precisely collide the material inside, thus no chain reaction.
