Halo movie
As all of you know, no one really knows what is going on with this.
Anyways, post here what you would want the movie to be like, what characters, from who's perspective, what themes?
For me, I dont really know If I would want it to be all about Master Chief, or even Spartans(even though they should make some appearance in it). I think it should focus on the Marines.
No good war movie ever exxagerates things... a firefight is not a bunch of people running around screaming and letting bullets fly, its some guy crouched down behind a low hunk of concrete trying to just even loacte the enemy while bullets whiz by.
Basically, if they make a Halo Movie, I think it should focus on the Marines and be a realistic, gritty and bloody one. Nothing int eh Halo-Verse has ever been able to achieve a substantial 'real' feeling, and if they want the movie to be good and sell to people other than fans, they need to make it believable.

Re: Halo movie
I think it should be an exact replica of the first Halo game.
Except for the actual game time, they can do what they want with that.
And Space Pandas. It has to have Space Pandas.

Re: Halo movie
I support the last rendition of the script. Darker than the games, told from a Marines perspective.
Hell the opening scene on Reach has a marine getting blown to bits by a plasma grenade and later on some marines getting cut in half by energy swords.

That's awesome, I always thought the games were a little 'light' if you know what I mean. Im hoping the movie would be dark, gritty and actaully war-like

saving private ryan is hardly a dark movie... as it's intent is to show the courage of the soldiers... and the hell they went through... it is supposed to be inspirational
how can any movie that has vin diesel getting sniped and killed be dark?

You mean... Vin Diesel actually dies?
This changes EVERYTHING!
But in a way, Flags of our Fathers was pretty dark.

Re: Halo movie
I want the movie not to be about a game, because that would be stupid. We have already seen it, so whats the point? It should either be about, in my opinion, one of the following:
-Halo: The Fall of Reach
-Halo: Ghosts of Onyx
-Or a totally new halo thing, not already a book or game.

Re: Halo movie
I dont care as long as Samuel L Jackson plays Sgt. johnson. I think he'd be perfect for that part.
Re: Halo movie
OK heres a good start off for a halo movie then to have a sequel following. have the beggining start of like them fighting on the asteroid then all of the sudden flash backs of training as a kid. then having the fight on reach. then more flashbacks.... then them getting to halo.... 2nd movie starts from here. do all of the halo stuff... maby extend a little. then do a same time fram as seeing onyx parts as Kelly and them move over there. then at the end of the movie when MC escapes see Johnson escape. thats my ideas for the first two....

Re: Halo movie
Quite honestly, after Halo Wars, I'm not sure I trust ANYBODY to do a decent Halo movie.
If it is done, it CANNOT follow the Spartans. Partly because of this, mostly because Spartans cannot convey the range of emotions needed for a movie.
The movie would also need to convey something more than "Breaking stuff to look tough." All the great war movies I can think of had something to say behind the bullets and the bombs, and I think the Halo movie should have a tint of xenophobia behind it.
"They're aliens. Geneva conventions don't apply, period."

Re: Halo movie
I don't know. While I agree that Spartans have become far to frequent in fan fiction, they are a major focus in the universe, and, at least in the books, a major part of one of the most prominent themes: whether or not it is ethical, even prudent, to sacrifice the few in order to save the many.
I think there are a few workable scenarios. The first would be a movie that focuses on The Fall of Reach. By following previously revealed canon, we can guarantee two things: the first is that canon will be generally maintained, if the movie sticks to the book, and the second every Halo fan and his mother will see the movie, and we'll stop having to hear "mor then wun masta cheaf?"
Another option would be for the movie to take place sometime between 2525 and 2552, somewhere in the 2540s, perhaps, after most hope had been lost. Perhaps the movie is set in 2544, over Miridem, and we learn how the Spartan Sheila dies. The important thing would be to ensure that canon was not breached, while telling a new story. The only person I'd trust to pull this off would be Peter Jackson.
The third option I see would be to do a movie based on The Flood (and thus, the first game) and perhaps also incorporate First Strike. Personally, I think this the weakest, since the subject is covered well enough between game and book, but it would probably have the most connection with the common, ignorant Halo fan that doesn't know there are books and skips all the cut scenes.

Re: Halo movie
Quite honestly, after Spielburg's love affair with Tom Cruise and butchering of Indiana Jones, I wouldn't trust him as far as I would with Peter Jackson.
