A few weeks (months?) back I posted about the rumor that the 1up network would be sold from Ziff Davis Media to UGO... the rumor has been realized. 1up was bought, and EGM was left in Ziff Davis' hands. Seeing as Ziff Davis is near poor, and print is on its knees, and all 1up assets would be cut off... EGM has been dropped.

I once had dreams of writing for EGM... they shall not be realized.

I do suspect that Ziff Davis may be monitoring my life though. I was once a pre-launch PS3 fanboy, and an avid reader of OPM (official playstation magazine.) When I decided to get a 360 instead, OPM and its podcast were shut down.

Now, right after I got my new video card and have moved onto PC gaming and (generally) away from the console side of things, they shut down their console gaming magazine and are now focusing primarily on their "PC game mag online outlet."

Goodbye EGM. I salute thee

Now UGO, the new owners, have gone and fired the majority of the experienced and well known editors.

All the podcasts I listen to (3) have been chewed up and spat back out.

UGO purchased and gutted what was just yesterday a wonderful website.

My stomach hurts...

It seems Garnette is looking for a new job, quietly. Perhaps he will honorably leave the dying corpse.

The only hope is that the guys (and couple girls) are taken in by Giantbomb.com, a popular website formed by a couple ex (meaning unfairly fired) staff members of gamespot.

I do hope this all resolves itself.

I discovered today that there will be no final issue of EGM. The twenty year long running magazine is over, and the issue I got a month ago is the last... and it had gay ass wolverine on the cover.

The issue that was last being produced will be available in digital form. EGM was nearing their 20th anniversary. It would have been great.

Fuck you UGO... and Ziff Davis..... how could you?
