EndWar (For Mother Russia!)
Partially so that V and I don't spam other threads with his denials that Mother Russia will crush the EF...
all of my review is based off the 360 version of EndWar. I haven't, nor will I, play the PC version, or PS3 version.
Anyways, EndWar is pretty fun. It's not like a standard RTS, where you have an 'aerial' (I can't think of a better word) view of your units (actually, it's more of a real time tactics). Just in case someone doesn't know, you see combat from your squad's perspective, and you can switch around between your squads.
I would say that EndWar makes you think more tactically than most other games, because it has a rock-paper-scissors type of gameplay (which Failo Wars tried to implement), that prevents you from spamming one type of unit and rushing your enemies (one of my opponents tried this, and one of my Engineer Squads wound up getting 13 kills in that battle).
It also makes you work as a team, since (if you play like my friends and I do, where each person specializes in one aspect of the battle i.e. infantry, airforce, armor, command etc.) you have to rely on each other because of the rock-paper-scissors gameplay.
On the downside, at first the game is very confusing, since having your POV from your squads perspective is...wierd. You'll get used to it, but it's still a sort of downside in the beginning.
In online, there is no middle ground between pro and idiot (I've never encountered a 'medium' player). So, you'll either win a match easily, or get destroyed by your opponent in the first 5 minutes. And if you're playing 2v2 or 4v4, you will most likely get stuck with n00bs (unless you have a party). As a result, Games are generally pretty short.
The online play freezes up alot (Edit: when i say alot, I mean alot, my friends and I have been trying to find a match, and we haven't been able to connect to a single one. Oh yeah, never use the quick match feature...) and it can be hard to find a match. Alot of times, I have randomly been kicked out of matches, for no apparent reason, and alot of times this happens to my opponents.
All in all though, the game is pretty good. I'd definitley reccomend it.
If you get it, be sure to join the Russian Spetsnaz in the Theater of War! We are currently nearing both Paris and the the District of Columbia (on the 360)! (Note: These circumstances can change quickly. If they do, I will not say anything that might damage the glory of Russia or discourage recruits from joining).
In closing:
FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!!!

Re: EndWar (For Mother Russia!)
Yes, I have Endwar and it is awesome... however, I have been devoting all of my 360 time to Gears right now, so I've only been able to finish the prelude.

If you catch engineers in the open, they're screwed. If you hit engineers with artillery, they are screwed. But, yeah other than that, they destroy anything if they're in cover...rifleman destroy them pretty well, though.Onyxknight wrote:>.> i am aiming for this game and it seems to have come off nicely and thought it does seem the enginers are the jack of all trades since they can encounter almost everything and either win or criple the enemy they are fighting.
Russia will never fall, comrade. As long as Dimitri lives on, our spirit will never be crushed...Mereel wrote:what you mean mother russia will fall as all factions must

I was in the Beta for this game.
I was the Americans, and I will be again the next time I play.
And isn't the only French weapon a white flag?

Re: EndWar (For Mother Russia!)
Maybe this was just the demo, or the lack of a human opponent, but I found that spamming tanks works quite well (and yes, I am talking about Endwar).

Heretic. The Americans are being crushed.PiEdude wrote:I was in the Beta for this game.

A white flag is the only French defense...they don't have anything for offense...
...spamming units doesn't work against human opponents...and I haven't seen it work against AI either....the last time someone tried that, they sent a mass of tanks rolling down a street, and so I stationed my units along the road, and would pop out random intervals and do damage before returning to hiding. I actually just left one of my engineers in one spot, and they defeasted around 13 enemy units...so...yeah...I think it must have been that it was the Beta...capn qwerty wrote:Maybe this was just the demo, or the lack of a human opponent, but I found that spamming tanks works quite well (and yes, I am talking about Endwar).

It seems to show that you are supporting the fascists...oh, God.
Comrade, this is even worse! You have gone to Bilco's thread! I would have preferred it if you had simply gone over to the Americans and fought against the Mother Land.
On a different note, you should play EndWar.

Re: EndWar (For Mother Russia!)
I did not like it.
I beta tested it, and I still hate the rock paper scissors system. Tanks kill APCs, APCs kill choppers, choppers kill tanks, artillery kills everything and infantry kills nothing.
I got used to the squad view, but it would have been much better if it had a birds eye view camera. Not only could you issue orders more efficiently(and no, voice commands don't really improve the game save for the fact that they're voice commands), but the learning curve would not be so huge and if it was like WiC(best RTS cam ever made) you could still go in close while you have a good view of the battlefield, there is middle ground. The idea of having a really close in view and a map view doesn't work for me.
Judging by your review the matchmaking never improved.

Re: EndWar (For Mother Russia!)
Not entirely true. Artillery is destroyed by anything that is right next to it. Since most people are idiots, and leave their artillery unguarded, my gunships have a fun time gunning down artillery sets.Dud Doodoo wrote:I did not like it.

Infantry are actually fairly effective, some of my squads have gotten dozens of kills. But, they're only good in cover. If any of your infantry are caught in the open, they're dead.
Probably. I like the squad based camera though, just because it's different.Dud Doodoo wrote:I got used to the squad view, but it would have been much better if it had a birds eye view camera.
Yes...perhaps my units wouldn't act retarded and fly around in circles...or come to an indecision about which side of a building to go around...voice commands are, in my oppinion, worthless. My friends and I all control our units manually (we got tired of WMD's targetting the wrong uplinks and blowing us up etc. etc.).Dud Doodoo wrote:Not only could you issue orders more efficiently(and no, voice commands don't really improve the game save for the fact that they're voice commands)
It's a new concept. I think it's pretty cool, but I also like having a birds eye view.Dud Doodoo wrote: but the learning curve would not be so huge and if it was like WiC(best RTS cam ever made) you could still go in close while you have a good view of the battlefield, there is middle ground. Re: EndWar (For Mother Russia!)
You know what they should've done,
They should've gotten the Darkstar Drones (from The Bear and the Dragon) and let the Americans have that as an advantage.
They also should allow a satelite view, but only if a satelite is over that battlefield at that time.
This provides a strategic advantage for timing.

The sitrep isn't an overhead view, it's an look at the map and what is where, you're not even seeing the battlefield.

Tanks kill APCs and Riflemen
APCs kill Choppers and Riflemen
Choppers kill Tanks, Artillery, and Riflemen
Riflemen kill Engineers (and capture points/use cover/garrison)
Engineers kill Choppers, Tanks, and APCs (and capture points/use cover/garrison)
Artillery kills Tanks, APCs, Engineers, and Riflemen (but must be long range and are slow at doing so)
It's not that bad man. Riflemen also provide a great distraction for other units when under cover as they take forever to kill, and many commanders just throw their units into fights without pointing out key units to attack first.
Voice command is not bad either. It's very useful in my opinion, especially if you actually know how to command without it. It's much more effective when used in conjunction with the controller.
As for view, I have no problem with it. If I really want to see further, I always keep a chopper squad, and I can zoom in from their higher viewpoint without even getting close. Plus choppers are very fast and it is easy to get around the map, even though enemy territory, using them.
