Drinking age:
Re: Drinking Age
Doesn't matter how old you are, all things need to be taken in moderation.
Most people don't seem to understand that.
As for the actual age, does it even matter any more? If a kid wants to drink badly enough, or at all really, it's not hard for him/her to get alchahol in this day and age, which is quite sad.

Re: Drinking Age
I say 18. You are officially an adult. If you are allowed to join the military and kill people, you should be allowed to drink.
It is 18 in every other industrialized country, I see no reason why it should not be here. YOU ARE AN ADULT!!!!

Re: Drinking Age
I would be alright with that, provided we do the same thing with DUI's that Germany does.

Re: Drinking Age
I'm going to mark proabition, but I'll make my view clear here:
I think the age should not matter... though it should still probably be 18 or older as with age comes responsability and reason. Would you leave your 12-year-old with a keg of vodka? I sure hope not.
I think there should be a legal intoxication level. Not just a public one, but a total one. I think it should probably be somewhere around .1 to .15. Seriously, don't you think 10-15% of your blood being alchohol is a good place to set the limit?
This level should be enforced everywhere, even in private (though previous laws still prevent cops from unwanted search and seasure). Just, if a cop comes to your door and you're drunk and answer, they can arrest you there.
Alchohalism is a disease, and it should not happen. I don't care how good it makes you feel, it does nothing good for you. Social drinking (2 or maybe 3 cans of beer with family durring holidays and stuff) is the only thing I find acceptable (well, aside from eucharist at church lol).
Nobody should ever get to a level of .4 or ever want to do so. Far to many people die from alchohol to allow something like that, even in private. Seriously, you guys fight to take us out of the war, but just think of what we would save (in lifes and money) if there were no drinkers in this country!

Re: Drinking Age
*likes BBs idea*
DUI punishment in the folowing countries:
Australia The names of the drivers are sent to the local newspapers and are printed under the heading, "He's drunk and in jail."
Malaya The driver is jailed; if he's married, his wife is jailed too.
South Africa A 10 year prison sentence or the equivalent of a $10,000 fine or both.
Turkey Drunk drivers are taken 20 miles from town by the police and forced to walk back under escort
Norway Three weeks in jail at hard labor, one year loss of license. If the driver commits a second offense within five years, his license is revoked for life.
Finland Driver is automatically jailed for one year at hard labor.
Sweden Driver is automatically jailed for one year at hard labor.
Costa Rica Police remove plates from the offender's vehicle.
Russia License revoked for life.
England One year license suspension, a $250.00 fine and jail for one year.
France Drivers are punished with a three year loss of license, one year in jail, and a $1,000 fine.
Poland Jailed and fined and forced to attend political lectures.
Bulgaria A second conviction results in execution
El Salvador Your first offense is your last, as punishment is execution by firing squad.

Re: Drinking Age
Ok, maybe not that extream, but I think we should follow Russia and Germany's example (they have the same view on DUI's, apparently): first offense, and liscense revoked for life.

Re: Drinking Age
I dunno... I think Turky got it right on this one. Maybe that coupled with Australia and a fine of a few-hundred $.
Re: Drinking Age
How about this: first offense, Turkey's view; second offense, Turkey's view plus 20 miles and $10,000 fine; third offense, Russia and Germany's view.

The thing is, during the Prohibition, MORE people drank, MORE people died from alcohol, and MORE people had DUIs (or the times equivalent)
I say leave it at 21 since its easy enough to get anyway, plus once its legal, its a lot less fun.

*cough* Patriot Act *cough*
if a cop comes to your door and you're drunk and answer, they can arrest you there.
So you're saying that being drunk should just be illegal? As long as you're not harming someone else, why does it matter? It's your life, do with it what you want. I personally think it would be horrible to not be allowed to be intoxicated. Being drunk every once in a while is fun.
I suppose it all depends on the level of drunk you mean. If you mean not able to stand drunk... I might sort of agree with you.
If you mean slurred speech drunk, I disagree

So you're saying that being drunk should just be illegal?
Because they have no control over their actions. Any person could harm someone else in a second as a drunk. That's like saying, well if going 100 mph over the speed limit isn't harming anyone else, then why not?ReconToaster wrote:As long as you're not harming someone else, why does it matter?
Well, the cop wont arrest the person unless they can easily tell that the person is drunk; so yah, staggering is a pretty good sign.ReconToaster wrote:It's your life, do with it what you want. Hey, guess what? You ever heard of a 'nonviolent drug crime'? Our prisons are full of people charged with those.

Re: Drinking Age
Drinking should be like it is in Germany. It's alright for people to drink on the job. The drinking age is 18. 'Slightly intoxicated' is ok.
If you're drunk... shame on you.
Alcohol related accidents and crimes should be punished with hard labor, as with many other crimes. Jack a car? Five years hard labor building roads. Kill somebody? You get fingerprinted, retinal scanned, and end up building dams in Alaska.
And what the hell is wrong with the Patriot act?
