Actually $0 real money damaged.

It was 11 trillion isk, which if you were to try to get that much isk through buying gametime with real money and selling it in-game would cost you $287000

Yeah, I feel like a lot of people misunderstand the whole PLEX=ISK conversion deal.

You can sell PLEX (game time cards) for ISK in the game, but ISK can be generated in game on its own.

Also, it's illegal to use that system to "cash out."

Was that 11 trillion ISK in any way liquid?

Also, how do tactics work in a large-scale EVE battle? Because it always looks like a bunch of big ships sitting right next to each other pounding away.

There are many. N3PL were using a "wrecking ball" formation with slowcat archons orbiting a central point that the Titans land at, ensuring they don't bounce and get separated from the group.

Dictors and Hictors maintain warp disruption sphere over the enemy fleet, and subcaps try to clear the sphere over friendly fleet. Logistical ships try to keep friendlies alive and DPS ships work to destroy the enemy normally focusing on a primary.

Fundamentally many of the same roles exist in any MMO. There is just 3d space and a lot more mechanics in place.

Smaller scale battles involve a better management of many mechanics, simply because 1 mistake is a much bigger weakness when you have 20 guys than when you have 1000.

I'm amazed at the scale of that battle. Nothing puts it in perspective faster than learning that, you know, they lost five times the number of Titans that were lost in the previous record-holder.

I wonder if you could use management experience from an EVE corporation in a real-life resume?

Yeah, the WINNING side of that fight lost more Titans than had ever been lost in a battle before.

We could only hope. It's one thing to herd cats towards a goal when you're paying them to do a job so they can feed themselves, and a whole other thing to herd cats when they are paying you to bring them fun.

Also, this is a great article for people not particularly familiar with EVE:

http://themittani.com/features/largest-virtual-battle-ever

It explains the fight and a lot of the mechanics.
